Wages Rise at Fastest Rate in Nearly a Decade as Hiring Jumps

WASHINGTON—Strong hiring and low unemployment are delivering U.S. workers their best pay raises in nearly a decade.

Employers shook off a September slowdown to add 250,000 jobs to their payrolls in October, above monthly averages in recent years, the Labor Department said Friday. With unemployment holding at 3.7%, a 49-year low, and employers competing for scarce workers, wages increased 3.1% from a year earlier, the biggest year-over-year gain for average hourly earnings since 2009.

How can we convince people to vote for new taxes and more government dependency if the Trump economy keeps doing this shit?

A good number of states and local parts of various states have passed minimum wage laws. How much of this good news comes from these efforts Trump and much of the GOP oppose?

[h=4]2017 Highlights[/h]
  • Nineteen states began 2017 with higher minimum wages. Seven states (Alaska, Florida, Missouri, Montana, New Jersey, Ohio and South Dakota) automatically increased their rates based on the cost of living, five states (Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Maine and Washington) increased their rates through ballot initiatives previously approved by voters, and seven states (California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Michigan, New York and Vermont) did so as a result of legislation passed in prior sessions. Washington D.C., Maryland and Oregon raised their respective minimum wages on July 1, 2017 due to previously enacted legislation.
  • Rhode Island was the only state to enact a minimum wage increase during 2017 legislative sessions.

Probably very little. Sorry, but maybe Orange Man isn't so Bad after all. Must be really hard on you.

Much of this good economy comes from effort of Barak Obama, who rescued the US economy from the crater Bush and the GOP Congress left us. The turn around was evident two years before Trump was elected.

This page has a nice chart showing employment growth. Note that growth under the last two years of Obama was strong and Trumps budget year figures really vary little. So obviously, this had nothing to do with Trump's policies. That disaster will only show up in the future as his vast deficits and trade war casualties start to really bite us hard.

Sorry to bust your little bubble with a pretty chart.

Regardless of the actual causes of the current burst in wage growth, Trump (as Presidents do) will get credit for it. The question for the midterm elections is will this be enough to blunt the anti-Republican wave (?).

Much of this good economy comes from effort of Barak Obama,

Oh, what the actual fuck. You'd gotta believe that we'd would have had this same roaring economy if Hillary Clinton was president. Ain't no one who'd believe that. Oh, man. Your're hilarious Cheerful Charlie.
The effects of fiscal policy take a number of years to full affect the economy, so some of this is attributable to the previous President. It is simply cra cra to give all the credit to the current President.

Trump has set economic growth on fire. Here is how he did it

Trump pledged that he would pare down regulations that were choking business activity. While the actual moves toward deregulation haven't been quite as ambitious as planned, the approach has won him converts in the business community.

The most recent reading from the National Federation of Independent Business was the second highest in history dating back 45 years. Small business owners reported aggressive hiring plans, the only obstacle to which has been a dearth of labor supply. The end of June saw 6.7 million job openings and just 6.6 million Americans classified as unemployed, an unprecedented imbalance.

"Expansion continues to be a priority for small businesses who show no signs of slowing as they anticipate more sales and better business conditions." NFIB President and CEO Juanita Duggan said in a statement.

On deregulation, Trump ordered that rules be pared back or eliminated across the board. During his time in office, Congress has cut back on the Dodd-Frank banking reforms, particularly in areas affecting regional and community institutions, rolled back a multitude of environmental protections that he said were killing jobs and took a hatchet to dozens of other rules. (The left-leaning Brookings Institution think tank has a rolling deregulation tracker that can be viewed here.)

During the first year of his administration, "significant regulatory activity" had declined 74 percent from where it was in the same period of the Obama administration, according to data collected by Bridget Dooling, research professor at GW's Regulatory Studies Center.

Yet, the business community does. That's what happens when regulatory activity declines 74%. Hillary Clinton would not have cut regulations. She would have added thousands and thousands of pages.

As an example, Obama lead the effort to save Chrysler and GMC when they were in deep and serious trouble. The GOP was demanding we just let them go under. But as the CEO of Ford stated, that would have destroyed the numerous suppliers that relied on Chrysler and GMC and taken down Ford as well. Millions of jobs were at stake and years of economic disruption.

Obama engineered the necessary bailouts, TARP, that the GOP didn't want, but that in the end, saved us from a far deeper recession or even depression that would have occurred had not strong action been taken.

Many of the US's best economists give Obama full credit for getting the US out of the Bush/GOP crater we were in when he took office. While even before Obama was sworn in, GOP Congressional leaders were meeting to agree to obstruct Obama at every turn. Despite that Obama successfully pulled the fat out of the fire.

That we are in the good position we are in today his nothing to do with Trump, the GOP and everything to do with Obama and his ability to get things done despite the rank GOP obstructionism he faced his entire 8 years.

Evidence indicates President Barack Obama has been tremendously successful and effective by objective measures. On economic indicators alone, he is credited with the longest streak of job growth in U.S. history, a two-thirds reduction in the federal budget deficit, and the rebounding of the stock market to record highs following the record lows of the recession under his predecessor. His victories have come against a backdrop of criticism and sometimes open defiance from conservatives, lack of cooperation in Congress, and racially tinged commentary in traditional and social media. Through it all, the President who campaigned on a slogan of 'Yes, We Can!' has persevered in his determination to make a difference and left an indelible mark on American politics and the world. LEGACY is a commemoration of his eight years in the White House.

You truly are taking this badly. Can't you just be happy that people are enjoying the booming economy and wage growth that Obama and big government couldn't provide them?

I don't think the President, be it Bush, Obama, Clinton, or Trump, has a whole lot of effect on the economy usually. Trump may, with his tariffs.

The economy was doing well under Obama, particularly given the 2008 shit-hole the GOP left him.

But now Trump deserves all the credit. And in exchange for riding Obama's coattails, conservatives are willing to be racist, homophobic, destroy our relationships with our allies, kowtow to Putin, and "fall in love" with Kim Jong Un. They're willing to be lied to, to lie to themselves, to believe in wacky conspiracy theories, and to kill immigrants. The religious right is willing to sell out what they claim to believe in, to put their supposed soul at stake because the economy is good.

And all for Trump, simply because he loudly proclaims that it's his genius at work right now.

In referring to the job numbers Trump said was fake while he was campaigning: "The [job] numbers weren't real then, but they're real now" - Sean Spicer

FUUUUUCK YOU.

I cannot be happy when people are wrongly giving Trump credit that rightfully belongs to Obama. This dangerous and misleading Triumphalism is a myth, and a dangerous myth. His idiot tax cuts will bury us in vast deficits, used by the GOP as an excuse to hack and slash at SS, Medicare, Medicaid and other programs the GOP doe not like for stupid ideological reasons and does not understand.
Which Mitch McConnell has already stated that he intends to follow this policy in the future, using the Trump deficits to implement a "Starve the Beast" policy.

The biggest dirty economic trick ever played on the American public. Trump's policies this year alone will double our deficit to $1 trillion dollars. Ignoring that to tout a single quarter of good employment growth is not a good idea.

Small-business owners credit Trump economic policies for record optimism

“Today’s ground-breaking numbers are demonstrative of what I’m hearing everyday from small-business owners – that business is booming,” NFIB President Juanita D. Duggan said. “As the tax and regulatory landscape changed, so did small business expectations and plans.”

What change in the tax and regulatory landscape are they referring to?

I really need to take an MCLE course in bankruptcy. It's gonna be hot in a couple years.

Hang on. You're saying that it was tax and regulatory changes made by the Obama administration that got the small business community so optimistic it's going on a hiring and spending spree? Whatever drugs you're taking, ya really need to share. That's some powerful shit.
