Mental illness is increasing in Australia
Religion is a mental illness
Therefore atheism is...uh...well...it's um...where was I...gee I kinda lost my train of thought.

Why exactly IS mental illness increasing among young people if rationalism/naturalism/atheism is supposedly embraced especially by this particular cohort of "the nones"?

See related thread about the rise in youth gambling (addiction).

No dog has six legs.

My cat is no dog.

Therefore my cat has six legs.

Hmm. Lion, can you spot what is wrong with this 'logic'?

If so, perhaps you could review the 'logic' you used in your OP, in the light of that, and see if you can spot the glaring error in what you appear to be mistaking for reasoning.

If you think that I have just shown that my cat is indeed a sexapod, then there's no hope for you.

And if you cannot see that your 'reasoning' is the same as mine, you need to try harder.

Mental illness is increasing.

Religion is a mental illness.

Therefore religion must be increasing.

I thought the consensus on this is that we've become better at diagnosing mental illnesses. So people aren't more mentally ill than they have been before. We just didn't know that they used to be. This is of course impossible to know for sure. But the idea that something miraculously pops into existence the moment we start looking for it shouldn't sound convincing to anyone. Which is why the idea that vaccines cause autism is so stupid.

Certainly we're better at labeling it.
Used to be, many mental problems and learning disabilities were identified as 'stupid, lazy, jackass,' and other ways to dismiss.

Or, like Religiosity, a form of OCD where the sufferer invents many rituals that must be completed to protect herself and her family, typically from God's wrath or Satan's temptation. In many cases, the family did not seek professional help for the child because they just assumed she'd 'gone Orthodox.'

When I first read the Bible and Paul had his epiphany, to me it just read as him having a standard psychotic episode.

So children raised on religion with mental illness are turning away from religion because it isn't helping them cope with their mental illness.

That's OK. All the cars on that train are empty.

Seriously, my dog thinks more logically, and if it's raining when I try to let him out the back door, he insists that we try the front door instead.

Hmmm, perhaps it has something to do with the rampant sexual abuse of children by clergy?

Hmmm, sounds similar to "climate change" and CO2.

Yup.

Yup.

CO2 levels are measurable. Historical CO2 levels are also measurable. The effect of CO2 on climate is measurable. What's stupid is the continued denial.

Yup.

Nope. We've got ice core measurements that go back hundreds of thousands of years. Not to mention all the other methods of measuring past era's temperature.

We have zero clinical documents on diagnosing patients before we started doing it
