It's interesting that the main upward trend started with the W Bush era for Democrats and then the Obama era for Republicians.

My guess is that the trend will continue upward, and governance will continue to become more dysfunctional.

Seems likely.

I note that during the same period, the powers of the executive branch generally expanded, making the current disposition of the office more important to the lives of everyday Americans.

In 2000 you get one of the most ignorant assholes in American history appointed president contrary to the will of the people by a partisan SC.

Then this asshole lets 911 happen.

His administration was specifically warned that bin Laden was planning to use commercial jets.

it is almost as if they wanted it to happen.

Then this silver spooner asshole wages useless war for the rest of his administration.

Accomplishing nothing good except for the war pigs getting rich.

Which was the reason for the whole thing.

If that wasn't enough he sat and watched an insane real estate bubble form without doing anything, leading to the collapse of several huge banks and almost the entire economy.

Is there any wonder why the hatred of Republicans rose at this time?

The hatred of Democrats was reflexive. A response to deserved hatred for being insane war mongers driving us to a useless incredibly costly war and wrecking the economy.

The Republicans have stopped being a party that has policies.

They merely work to enrich themselves and their friends.

They are a looting party. Putting more and more debt onto future generations.

What Untermensche said.

There are objective and concrete reasons we can point to for hating Bush/Cheney (e.g. war and recession).

Why did conservatives hate Obama so much? There's a difference between legitimate disagreements with policy and the irrational fear vomited forth from conservatives regarding Obama.

What was also revealed was the rotting framework of American culture. I knew racism still existed, but to me it seemed a thing slowly but surely fading. Good god was I naive, and therefore wrong as wrong could be. I'm still dumbstruck over it. Anyway, I'd guess that's where at least a plurality, if not a majority of the hate for Obama came from. Second in line is Fox, Limbaugh, etc. ... Hmm. I think it's quite possible that conservative allowed the racism to remain flash-frozen until a demagogue like Trump came along to heat it to a boil.

All I know is that we're fucked.

It was all predicted and revealed some time ago in this article :

https://aeon.co/essays/history-tells-us-where-the-wealth-gap-leads

"Unequal societies generally turn a corner once they have passed through a long spell of political instability. Governing elites tire of incessant violence and disorder. They realise that they need to suppress their internal rivalries, and switch to a more co-operative way of governing, if they are to have any hope of preserving the social order."

History repeats itself and we are going living through this phase right now. So yes, the partisan hatred will continue until even the globalist elites are fed up with it.

Where does this data come from? Because I saw an awful lot of Democrat-hatred from the right long before the line turns up. They've been preaching Democrat-hatred since the Clinton era.

Perhaps it's because of the internet; lets partisans stay in their bubbles.

The irony and blindness is amazing.

You are a huge partisan of capitalist scum living in a bubble.

Who do you think runs the Republican party?

Hint: Rich greedy immoral capitalist scum that want everything for themselves like a two year old. The president is their poster boy.

Trump is modern capitalism in human form.

Perhaps it's because of the internet; lets partisans stay in their bubbles.

Definitely a big part of it. We need to figure out how to encourage more people to venture outside of their echo chambers, as you are and I are doing right now.

Other factors. The rise of right winged radio and cable channels that fanned hatred of anything not right winged. The turn to very partisan politics with Newt Gingrich and his crew. The rise of partisan wedge issue politics epitomized by Lee Atwater and his ilk. The rise of far right negative politics. The turn to racist politics with the success of the Southern Strategy.

Careful, you’ll get a noise bleed up there on your pedestal.
