Paul Ryan To Possibly Leave Congress After Mid-Terms

Trump only makes the lives of those around him more miserable.

Ryan fancies himself a thinker, which is a joke, but he probably detests having to deal with Trump.

Ryan is probably trying again to play hard to get like he did in order to snag the job in the first place.

He sees himself as Presidential material, and the only way he will ever have a shot at that is

(1) most importantly - getting as far away from Trump as he possibly can for a few years,

(2) getting as far away as he can from the fall-out of this insane tax bill, &

(3) getting away from Washington for a while so he can pretend to be an outsider when he runs.

I think if he wants to campaign for president, he should have some successful legislation passed under his control to help with that. Running and hiding is hardly displaying much of a leadership role.

He knows he isn't going to get any sort of successful legislation under a Trump administration, so why get covered in Trump turds in the meantime. Go back to Kansas and run for state office - governor, perhaps. Get some legislative chops far away from the Trumpster.

P.S. I can't stand the guy, so I hope he sinks into utter oblivion. This is just my ill-informed opinion of what he may be thinking.

I really know nothing about Paul Ryand aside that he's a republican. The Tax Bill, I just feel it sucks but really know nothing about. But if he's leaving over ethical issues with Trump,I kinda' got a little more respect - I just dislike him by default for being a conservative.

I doubt he is *thinking out loud about* leaving for ethical reasons. (He doesn't have any ethics as far as I have seen). It would be entirely self-serving reasons, imo.

But as someone else noted above, Ryan has a history of positioning himself so that others have to beg him to stay on. He could very well be playing that game again, too.

Okay, I definitely see the point to this.

It's a good plan once you added these details above.

The other thought that occurred to me, and fits with my view of Ryan and his lack of backbone, is that he sees Mueller closing in, and that there may be enough splatter to take Pence out too, and he does NOT want that job.

Maybe Ryan has information from the Russia inquiry and doesn't want to be vice president??

He wouldn't be Vice President. That position is nominated by the President and approved by the Senate. As Speaker of the House, Ryan can only become the President without being elected to the office.

Primary challengers for incumbents is uncommon. Would he be waiting for 2024 or 2020 in this scenario?

I would predict 2024, or maybe even 2028. Ryan is a young man. He has plenty of time.

I believe I misspoke earlier that his home state is Kansas - it is Wisconsin. The Wisconsin governor's race is in 2018 - not nearly enough time for Ryan to run for that election. Moreover, I don't think he would go up against Scott Walker. But a 2022 run as Governor and then 2024 or 2028 as President? I can see it. (I wouldn't like it, but I can see it)

So now that Ryan has contributed significantly to making it even more difficult for working people to retire....he's going to retire?
