The statue is part of an exhibition called “Seeds of Life” that features 188 pieces of ancient, pre-Hispanic erotic art made out of clay, stones, and shells. So far, an estimated 30,000 onlookers have toured the explicit exhibit.
The museum’s director, Javier González, says that Aztecs viewed “sexual pleasure and enjoyment of procreation [as] gifts given to humanity from the divine realm.”
Some of those “gifts” evidently included kinky gay sex.

The ancient Romans thought the same.

*sigh*

Sad that we're all still caught in the morass of Christian Victorian views on sex.

It's not Victorian. Remember the Puritans before them, and they were worse. Remember the Catholic Church. Remember the Cathars. It's simply Christian. Christians were always ignorant folks with sick attitudes regarding a number of things, including sex, gender relations and politics (authoritarian and mentally disturbed in each of those three areas). Liberal Christianity as a phenomenon of masses is a relatively new thing, product of literacy and the spread of scientific knowledge and the ideals of reason and textual criticism.

I think that the figurine may not be a positive portrayal of gay sex. They look like devilish monsters instead. But a lot of stuff from that area and era looks austere at least to ugly at worst.

It may have been a humorous piece instead.

Some gay erotic art is still like that. Check out the work of American artist Bill Schmeling aka The Hun (but don't do it at work:wink:)
