Ok, so, recently people got political over Hogwarts Legacy.

I get that Rawlings is a shitheel who needs to get out of TERF mode.

Still, Potterverse is a thing people enjoyed and have a right to enjoy, even if the writer is a bit bigoted or idiotic at times.

So, twitch is rife with streamers going apeshit over it and canceling each other for streaming the new Harry Potter game's content.

Which is stupid, because the fact is as trans stuff goes it's pretty awesome. You literally select everything about your voice and appearance separate from gender, before you ever get to the question of "witch" or "wizard".

It's hilarious insofar as while there are further destinations than "witch" or "wizard", only cyberpunk ever managed to go that far.

Which is apropos, because the fact is that the game is terrible for anyone not also buying a current generation graphics card.

I have seen my PC turn better graphics than the highest setting that game produces, at medium settings, and higher framerates than that game does at "medium".

And when at "medium" settings, the game is a true horror show. I'm talking their eyes look like puckered anuses when the poly model reduces, with moths that look like C3PO fucked the puppet in Mac and Me.

It is going to give me nightmares seeing that tonight.

Combined with unresponsive controls and slow framerates during action scenes, clipping through floors, and other horrible elements of gameplay, it is truly unplayable.

The one thing it isn't is "visibly anti-LGBT".

Of course children are going apeshit over it and acting like they are back in highschool over the apparent value in some made up popularity contest wherein the myriad streamers think they can chum the water and maybe see the bigger fish taken out to make more room in their small pond.

The game is an unplayable horror show, and as much because of how trolls have apparently whipped up a twitterstorm over views on trans people that are not even carried into the media and a failure to recognize that the one thing they did manage to do was to allow players any body and voice they choose, offering representation in some way to the discordant and those born atypical.

Not to mention their anti-mod EULA...

Well, that's the real problem, isn't it? Nothing to do with the game, just a generation with a lot more access to authors' opinions than we ever used to have, and an author who refuses to respond to critique in any way but doubling down. She is ill-adapted to the modern media landscape, and if the "wokes" had anything like the mythic power often ascribed to them by fearful conservatives, she would have dragged down her entire franchise with her by now. But they don't, and she hasn't, and the game will probably sell plenty of copies no matter what she types.

My wife is playing it on PS5, and it looks great. Enjoying it a lot.

Yea, if you cut out from your life everything created by people with problematic opinions, then there might not be a whole lot left. And most of the time people not getting a game/movie/whatever because of that does not have a big enough effect to change the mind of those putting the stuff out there. I'd just say such avoidance is a personal preference and don't condemn those who disagree on whatever the subject is.

Why not condemn those who support people with problematic opinions?

Is it only the ones you feel don't matter?

If lots of people are buying nazi paraphernalia to fund fascist politicians, is that ok? Should you just STFU and let them buy what they want?

Why not condemn those who support people with problematic opinions?
Sure, condemn the opinions, and those that support it. Just don't confuse the person with the product they helped produce. Just because say John Travolta is in a movie doesn't make it a pro-scientology movie for example, and I won't condemn someone for liking the movie. I will have a problem if they support scientoloty.

Is it only the ones you feel don't matter?
Not sure what you mean here

Of course not. Because that is directly supporting the horrible ideals, rather than something that is unrelated to the ideals that just happened to have been produced by an asshole.

If I purchased the game I'd accept the fact I handed my money to an asshole and move on. I see no value in becoming a voice of opposition to folks who's side I'd be on otherwise. Why take that extra step?

Ok. So if I'm buying cute stuffed animals that have no obvious connection to nazis, but just happen to fund nazi propaganda (as an example). That's ok?

Cool cool.

My guess is it needs optimization. I mean the recommended GPU (for PC) is Nvidia GeForce 1080 Ti which was released on March 10th, 2017. You should be able to purchase a GPU from two Generations ago and run it well.

Shouldn't we start the discussion by laying out what JK Rowling has said over the years that is troublesome? I recall she said some things a few years ago to the effect of "transwomen aren't real women", but has there been anything more recent?

Why not? What's the functional (morally, ethically) difference between financially supporting terfs, or nazis?
Lets look at that again:

that have no obvious connection to nazis, but just happen to fund nazi propaganda (as an example). That's ok?
What is the connection? Is the toy sale directly supporting nazi propaganda? Or is it someone involved with the toy company, who gets paid by them, donates their own money to nazi propaganda? What is that person's involvement, is it management, ownership, or some guy who works on the factory floor?

Also, the whole 'nazi' angle is a bit disingenuous isn't it? JK may be a bigot when it comes to trans people, but that does not make her a nazi,

Saying that a man cannot become a woman is troublesome? We live in very stupid times.

Honestly, I think she is privately a Nazi for her Goblins: critters with big, prominent noses who run banks greedily and privately think they own all the gold and contents and only don't "for now" because they don't have the power to seize it.

If that isn't a metaphor echoing antisemitism of past eras, I don't know what is.

The fact is, there are stunningly deep moments of racism in British culture.

Not troublesome to me, but to others obviously. Work with me here, dude! ;)

I tend to take the route of making it clear to my friends and relations when I'm boycotting something and why, but not trying to force it on others. In my experience, that tends to result in more backlash than boycott. Do I wish everyone was banning Chick-Fil-A with me? Of course. But it's just not a very good social strategy to go "Adhere to my principles! Give up fried chicken!"

You have to consider the declining returns of it all. And be wary of the fact that the alt-right justifiably chuckles every time leftists start fighting each other instead of them. Rowling isn't afraid she'll go out of business because one twitch streamer cancelled another twitch streamer over her product. That's just free publicity from her end.

She also said the Earth is round and water is wet. Burn the witch!

We buy plenty of products from companies that directly supplied that regime and its despicable actions. Allianz Financial, Volkswagen, IBM, the Associated Press. If building the ovens for these creeps wasn't enough to get those companies boycotted right out of business, I don't see what would be.

A part of this that’s foreign to me is that grown adults are arguing and upset over playing a children’s computer game. Like, wut? Suspended adolescence is a quirky aspect of our current culture.
