Hello,

I have a friend that has permanent residence here in Texas but she was born and still is a British citizen. She went to high school in Dudley and a college in Bilston. Both of these schools have been closed. She wants to attend college and university here in Texas but she needs to get her transcipts from her old schools so she won't have to start all over from the very beginning. Where would these records be kept in the U.K.

Thanks,

BH

I went to high school and college in the UK, and have never heard of a 'transcript' in this context other than in discussion with Americans. Am I correct to assume that this is simply a record of exam results?

The various examination boards in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland were merged with the AQA in the 1990s, and copies of high school qualification certificates (GCE O and A levels, CSEs and GCSEs) may be available from that organisation http://www.aqa.org.uk/

I would imagine that the college examination results would have been managed by the college itself, and would be harder to find; if the college has a successor (eg if it merged with another institution on closure), then Google should provide the name of that successor, and they may well have the records you seek. Alternatively, the relevant local education authority (usually a part of the district or county council for the location of the college) may be able to help. Bliston would come under the Wolverhampton LEA:

Wolverhampton City Council (LEA code 336)
Education Department,
Wolverhampton Metropolitan Borough Council,
Civic Centre, St Peter's Square,
Wolverhampton, WV1 1RR
