Rape victim suing county after being jailed following courtroom collapse

I smell sensationalistic reporting. Jailing her after a courtroom breakdown paints a different picture than placing her in a psychiatric facility after her behavior -- walking out into the street-- was clearly a danger to herself and others.
Hospitalizing is not the same as jailing.

Placing someone on a psych hold for evaluation, after behavior dangerous to self or others, is pretty common. Indeed, failure to intervene places the police or courts at serious legal exposure.
Id like to see a more informative article before passing judgement.

Did you read the story carefully?

Here's the chronology: She's bipolar. She gets raped. She goes to court and she testifies. She has a breakdown. She walks into traffic after court. She is committed involuntarily to a psych hospital. She is released from the psych hospital. Immediately after being released from the hospital, she is picked up and sent to county jail. This is what the lawsuit is about, not the hospitalization.

In county jail she is exposed to the typical low-lives that populate these places and she is denied her medication. At least one of those typical-low lives assaults her and traumatizes her further. In this unmediated and traumatized state she has a confrontation with one of her jailers and throws a punch. Now she has criminal charges against herself. Because a DA had her hauled in and thrown in jail and denied her medication even though she had committed no crime.
