Rashida Tlaib: "No more policing, incarceration, and militarization. "

Very interesting that you say that, when I live in north Minneapolis right now. I understand that many cities have worse problems with crime, but I've never seen once in my whole life any situation wherein the police actually prevented a crime. Police pick people up after the fact.
Locking up robbers, murderers etc. after the fact is also an essential public good.
Yes, without precogs police will more often investigate crime rather than actually prevent it, although the latter certainly also happens frequently.

I will gladly claim there is no need for more police in my neighborhood.
If it was you, or a loved one, who was robbed at gunpoint by Daunte Wright and Emajay Driver, would still feel that way?

There is a lot of need for social workers, social assistance,
Quite a separate issue altogether.

rent control,

Just like other forms of price control, it's a stupid idea.

banning the box,
What do you have against boxes?

and increasing school funding for non-security concerns.
I do not think school funding is really the problem in the US.

Rather, the problem is where that funding goes. Too much of the money goes to administration and to the idiots who think math is racist because it has a right and wrong answer and you have to show your work.

meh, let me guess this is your path to a doctorate in education
maybe you can be the first lady

She's saying better no policing than the destructive fascist violent racist policing we have now.

We know what she's saying.

The majority of people everywhere reject the idea.

If the policing is worse than having no policing then she has a point.

In the US how you feel about that many times depends on your skin tone.

The policing is more harmful and destructive to a minority.

The vast majority of people from all demographics are overwhelmingly against the idea of police abolition.

I don't know about that.

But other things have to happen.

The drug war has to end. Mass imprisonment has to end.

There has to be a decent education and opportunity for everyone.

Abolishing the police means getting rid of the current model entirely and creating a system that serves the needs of everyone. Not just the needs of the rich and the politicians who have no solution for poverty when we are trapped in an authoritarian capitalist system.

Cool. So what is this new system that will get violent criminals off the streets?

Yeah, that doesn't answer how to arrest criminals who don't want to be arrested.

POLICING THE POLICE: THE IMPACT OF "PATTERN-OR-PRACTICE" INVESTIGATIONS ON CRIME

Erug-7sWMAIuf-v

Truly a macabre irony that the social justice activists who criticize police for killing black men are unwittingly abetting the massive increase of black-male homicide.

900 people got caught committing the 34,000 felonies?

900 people got caught committing the 34,000 felonies?

No. They found an excess of 900 homicides and 34,000 felonies. More people lost their lives and became crime victims because the cops disengaged from policing.

because those 900 killed lived in a vacuum?

What do think excess means?
from the abstract hard to tell

The whole paper is there. From the top of page 5:

paper said:
as resulted in 893 more homicides than would have been expected with no investigation and more than 33,472 additional felony crimes, relative to synthetic control cities.

(Emphasis added.)

In other words, in one month BLM indirectly killed nearly as many as the police do in a year.

BLM should be protesting BLM.

...
For investigations that were preceded by a viral incident of deadly force – Baltimore, Chicago,
Cincinnati, Riverside and Ferguson – there is a marked increase in both homicide and total crime.

direct, indirect? cause and effect? narrative? in other words?

What's so hard to understand?

Deadly force incident goes viral => BLM protests => cops become more passive => police shootings go down and crime goes up. More than 100x as many die because of the police passivity than because of the police actions.
