Republicans Freak Out As Data Shows That Their Party Is Dying Off

Don't bet the farm, unless you're planning to croak in the next couple of years. If the Dems get hold of Congress and the WH, they will very likely add a couple of seats and turn the SCOTUS into a 6-5 liberal entity.
Fucking hell, can I have some of what you're smoking!?!?

The dems wouldn't have the spine to do anything so bold, and it would probably backfire eventually because they'll forget the GOP just cheats to win anyway.

I would give you good odds on a bet against that in the next 5 Dem administrations, easy. But I would want it in escrow. :D

The OP was about generations. Your response ... I guess given the "soft" bigotry of low expectations you don't expect minorities to be able to choose what party they might want to join. I guess the birthplace of my grandfather determines my political affiliation.
Apparently, you're too dumb to understand the difference between individuals, and trends.

Would you like me to explain it to you? I'll use small words...and crayons.

Ah, racism again. So "unexpected" to see racism from the left directed at anyone who doesn't vote according to their skin color.

See added underlines...no shit on the OP being about generations

Well, I'm sure many were already worried, as old white people dying off while non-white birth rates are higher, as it has been a known thing for a while. Texas should be an open battleground state by 2024. Even now it is turning, see reference below. FFvC could break Texas earlier for 2020. Florida will be more competitive in 2020 for the Democrats with the passing of Amendment 4 in 2018, giving ex-felons the right to vote (1.5 million people). Other states are bluing with the Hispanic demographic shift as well.

WTF? Do you pay any attention to demographics relative to political affiliation? The GOP has been dependent for years upon aging white people, especially men for election wins. Younger people have trended more towards the Dems for quite a while now. And the generational divide is wider for non-whites than for whites. The under 40 crowd is now a massive gap in favor of the Dems. Only the Silent generation (1928-1945) has a Repug advantage. And it is just reality that they are dying off fast now. Both my parent joined that trend just 2 years ago. Minorities, whether you like it or not, tend to vote in higher percentages towards Democratic candidates. That is just reality...not "soft bigotry"...

There have been fewer registered Republicans compared to Democrats for several years, but over 40% of people refer to themselves as Independents. Most independents tend to vote for the same party most of the time. My mother is a good example of this. She always called herself an independent, but she hasn't voted for a Republican since Nixon, a vote that she later regretted. Registering with a particular party really doesn't mean that much, imo. Plus we have open primaries in Georgia, and I once voted in the Republican primary just to vote against Ralph Reed. I felt a little dirty asking for that Republican ballot, but I really didn't want Ralph Reed to be our Lt. Governor. I don't think party affiliation means that much to most people. It's only those who are on social media that are sometimes a bit fanatical about their party affiliation. TFT is a form of social media and those of us who post in this section of the forum tend to be political junkies. :)

Agreed. I also think that there is a real deficiency in younger republican talent coming up the ranks. Like them or not, there are several extremely talented and charismatic young democrats coming up the chain. The republicans have Pense and Trump.

You made your point - this whole topic is racist.

Just wow...so discussion demographic trends is racist...ok have fun in your world. Don't be surprised if I ignore you more often than not in the future...

??? The next two justices most likely to die or retire are Breyer and Ginsbug, who are 2 of the 4 "liberal" justices. So, even if the Dems get to replace them that leaves the court still 5-4 in favor of the Stone Age. And Ginsburg may very well not last another 19 months, and thus would be replaced by someone to the right of her (b/c the Dems controlling the House is not enough).

None of the right wing judges are likley to retire in the next 5 years, especially if the Dems win in 2020. So, the Dems would need to control the WH and Congress till at least 2028 to have any chance of just getting it to 5-4 liberal, and that assumes Thomas retires before he's 80.

This reminds me of some study which showed that political persuasion is heritable; and becomes more so as we age. Not surprising that most young people identified as Democrat. I did. Reagan did. Thomas Sowell had been a young Marxist. But then you get older. Thing is, the young conservatives are more family oriented than young Democrats; marrying, having children, and all that. And they'll pass on those genes. The future belongs to them, not the promiscuous child-aborters.

I agree with your take on the stats, but I think it is more economic (greed) and idealistic (naive). The youth are happy to want everyone to share resources, when they are the primary recipients of the charity.... and fresh out of school, have all kinds of theoretical ideas and textbook approaches that have not worked in the real world since they were first taught as theory centuries ago - it's just a new idea to them.
As they age, they (hopefully) gain access to more resources and are less motivated to want there to be a whole lot of sharing anymore... and their idealistic outlook has had the opportunity to mature into a more grounded and realistic approach to things though trial and error... lots and lots of error.

The whole country is racist... discussing topics on observable differences that correlate to race is not racist... it's statistics / demographics.

Um... Elixir is talking about packing the court: increasing the number of justices to 11 so there will be a 6-5 liberal majority.

Demographic trends = the percentage of the population of race X is going up and the percentage of population of race Y is going down.

It becomes racism when posters say "people of race X vote party A because their skin color tells them to."

As you appear to be the only person saying that (what I just underlined above), then I guess you are saying you are racist...or you could go for one of those weird things called a Quote of anyone who has stated something so silly.

Demographics covers far more than simple up/down population changes...
https://www.dictionary.com/browse/demographics
( used with a plural verb ) the statistical data of a population, especially those showing average age, income, education, etc.

I am the only one to use "X", "Y", and "A", so technically I am the only person to be saying what you underlined. Of course two of those are stand-ins for racial categories and one a stand in for a political party, so by the magic power of substitution you will find people writing something very much like what I wrote.

Forget the matrix of race. Look at the cult this party has become. Trump rallies are nuts!!! A fat orange man ranting, waving his hands, shouting out half-truths and out 'n' out lies at the crowd, complete with double helpings of rage and bigotry. The shiny-faced fans roaring back at him whatever the chant of the moment happens to be. They are out of their fucking minds. This approach means that Trump's base is rock-solid and will never leave him. But how disinviting it is to those Americans who look upon it as irrational and dangerous. For now, the sensible people outnumber the rally rats by a good margin.
