Republicans, going back to the 2016 presidential campaign, have been claiming there are lots of Democrats (and others) molesting and raping children. QAnon was based on this. It inspired a gunman to shoot up a pizza parlor because Q claimed Hillary Clinton was running a child sex ring out if its basement. It doesn't have a basement, btw.

There is now a running list being collected of Republicans being charged or convicted of pedophilic activities with links to the reports. It's grown quite large.

Modern Republican politics has strayed so far from its traditional conservative roots, there's really no resemblance to the party of Barry Goldwater.
The core of the modern Republican Party is exploitation of power dynamics. It's a group of people whose concept of power is, "I'm bigger and stronger than you and you will do what I say." For them, weakness in someone else is something to be used for personal gain. It's a pathology that drives them to attack minorities, especially those which they perceive as easy to single out. LGBT, immigrants, anyone with limited political power and easy to define. For a lot of Republicans, it's pure bully mentality. They are performing for the crowd to demonstrate their power, but don't really care whether any particular person is gay, Hispanic, PYL.

A culture like this is naturally going to appeal to pedophiles, which is the extreme abuse of power over the weak.

Wouldn't you want to hang with the GOP if you were a child abuser? Republicans teach their kids nothing about sex, roll their eyes when liberals start talking about "consent", and actively campaign to end Title IX protections for our kids. A Republican political position puts them in constant contact with both kids and parents who are dangsrously naive about the world and easily awed by a man in power.
