This thread is for stories illustrating just how small a government the Republicans really want.

Example #1: Small government policing public bathroom usage

Proposed law would limit transgender protections throughout Florida

State Rep. Frank Artiles[R] on Wednesday filed HB 583, titled “Single-Sex Public Facilities.”

Artiles’ proposed law: “Single-Sex Public Facilities: Requires that use of single-sex facilities be restricted to persons of sex for which facility is designated; prohibits knowingly & willfully entering single-sex public facility designated for or restricted to persons of other biological sex; provides exemptions; provides private cause of action against violators; provides for preemption.”

That doesn't impose any real restrictions on straight, white Christian males and therefore doesn't count as an example of intrusive government.

Nice strawman, though.

Correction: The party of small minded government. The party of short memory government. The Republican senators and congressmen sit looking all stern about "profligate government spending," chiding and condemning anybody who want to see a little social spending and somehow forgetting the TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS they blow each year on wars and weapons of mass destruction. Forgetting somehow it was their mentors who got them into congress who created the housing crisis, the banking crisis. They reserve their very shortest memory for what their policies have done to those they have impoverished. So what do they come up with...segregated toilets...and picking on transexuals. GRRRReat! Republican approach to actual world problem....quitesmall indeed.

And what about those that need help from an opposite-sex caregiver? (Hint: Who is the most likely caregiver? One's spouse. In a heterosexual marriage that means they're opposite-gender.)

A few years ago my wife hurt her back while we were in China, she was in a wheelchair for a few days which coincided with our flight home. LAX had no family bathrooms, somebody's going to end up in the wrong-sex bathroom. We used the men's room there, the others in the room could clearly see she needed help, nobody made the slightest issue of it.

Had you used the women's room they would be more likely to i would bet. Nobody cares about women in the men's room.

SD House Advances Bill Attacking Trans Students

Today, lawmakers in the South Dakota House State Affairs Committee voted 10-2 to advance HB 1195, a bill attacking transgender high school students.

The measure would overturn the South Dakota High School Activities Association (SDHSAA)'s transgender policy, which allows for every student to participate in high school sports in a manner consistent with their gender identity and/or expression, "irrespective of the gender listed on the student's records."

The party of smaller government empowering the government to tell local school districts who is and who isn't allowed to play certain sports.

Why throw 'biological' into that?
Is this a way to harrass transgenders?
A way? It is the reason for the legislation.
I suspected as much.

You know, the overwhelming number of my coworkers that it would not suprise me if i saw them in the men's restroom, i haven't seen their peepee. They use the restroom, they stand before the urinal, they wear 'mens' clothing...but i have no direct experience of their 'biological' gender.
For those few i've glimpsed in the vicinity of the urinal, i've never been close enough to check for surgical scars. I've seen no one's genetic profile. THey dress male, they present as male, but it's not impossible that it is all the product of surgery, hormone therapy and make-up.

I don't really care. If they want me to call them 'guy,' i will. If they want me to call them 'miss,' i'm okay with it. It doesn't matter to me if either one matches the little block on their birth certificate.

I'm sure that to the sponsors and authors of this bill, it matters. I'm sure they're very convinced there are some 'perversions of science' out there in every restroom, looking for a chance to see the author's peepee. Why that matters to them, i don't really understand, either.
But ultimately, the only sure-fire solution to this will be to do away with multiple-station restrooms. Make each toilet and each urinal the sole occupant of an enclosed space with an opaque, lockable door. Then there's just no way anyone will ever see something they're not specifically invited to view.

Or maybe just add a fourth restroom. The Men's room, the Ladies' room, the family room and the paranoid single-facility closet. "The Solo...For when you just can't face the thought of a transgender seeing your feet under the door of the stall...."

I'll bet it doesn't provide payment for costs for someone not able to access a facility pulling them down in public and dumping on the feet of the nearest republican.

If I'm sitting on the crapper and see a pair of Hobbit feet in Gucci pumps stroll by, I might be taken aback.

I guess I'm for just a Plain Old Toilet that anyone can use. Standard rules of decorum apply.

Montana Lawmaker Wants to Ban Yoga Pants

Montana state representative David Moore is so disgusted by these things called "human bodies" that he has introduced a new bill that will ban them from public once and for all. HB 365 would prohibit public nudity as well as "any device, costume, or covering that gives the appearance of or simulates the genitals, pubic hair, anus region, or pubic hair region." That means you, yoga pants.

Small government supporter wants to use small government to tell you what kind of clothes you can wear out in public.

Man, Montana would be the last place I'd expect nudity issues, especially near the "anus region".

I think he means merkins for men. Because that is the hot fashion product this summer.

There are people born intersex, either with bits of both or nothing very much, who are difficult to define as men or women. So, where do they "go"?

Effectively this requires a third type of facility to be provided.

And shit like this is why I propose rearranging our bathroom setup every chance I get to 'Cares about gender' and 'don't give a shit'. Where 'IDGAF' gets a big multi-stall bathroom with urinals and lots of stalls 2x the size of a 'classic' bathroom, and then a set of two or three individual bathrooms. All the mature adults can piss and shit as we please, and the stuffy, immature people can wait for the private stalls and be outed as immature fucks.
