So umm... no threads about locusts in Africa?

The Locust Plague, the fourth plague of Cthulu (1st - Trump, 2nd - Coronavirus, 3rd - Inevitable EPL cancellation ending the greatest season by a team ever prematurely :(, 4th Locust Plague) who is royally pissed we don't worship it anymore, has been on going in Africa to almost no fanfare on this side of the pond. It could be noted that the locust plague predates the Coronavirus and the EPL thing, but shut up!.

article said:
A second wave of desert locusts is threatening east Africa with estimates that it will be 20 times worse then the plague that descended two months ago.

The locusts present “an extremely alarming and unprecedented threat” to food security and livelihoods, according to the UN. A swarm of just more than a third of a square mile can eat the same amount of food in one day as 35,000 people.

This second invasion from breeding grounds in Somalia includes more young adults which are especially voracious eaters.
The coronavirus has messed up dealing with this as well. But I suppose the good news is that the articles I've read keep on talking about doom and gloom, without reporting doom and gloom. So maybe this plague is more flaccid than the others?

I remember reading a couple months ago, the locusts were the worst in 20 or so years, and apparently the latest wave is larger than that one. Some reports indicate the locusts love carbs so they take out The Olive Gardens first, then Fazolis, then buffets before setting out on the crops outdoors.

It really comes down to breeding conditions and whether that allows for larger and larger swarms to come forth. Hopefully we can appease Cthulu, because otherwise, the globe is probably on the path for a uber solar flare that'll set the world back to rural Louisiana.

We need to send Africa some tarantulas such as we have in the South West USA. In breeding season here, we can have vast swarms of male tarantulas hunting females. Gets this going in Africa to eat the locusts.

Has Bonespurs suggested nuking them yet?
Far more likely, a plan to catch immigrants at the border then ship them to Africa with three flyswatters each. MAGA flyswatters. Made in China.

Good plan, but nets, not flyswatters. Make the immigrants catch all the locusts, you process them into protein powder and use the protein powder to feed people (for a nominal fee of course) next time locusts wipe out the crops. MAGA

What would we do if China gave those corrupt African governments money to bribe the locusts into flying across the Atlantic and eating all of our food?

Regarding Africa I'm more interested in some intricate debate over the politics of the Central African Republic. No, seriously. It doesn't get a lot of media attention having no noticeable government, military, or geo-political significance, and it having perpetual conflict between a number of armed militias, but it's one of the regions of the world that I have a hard time looking away from.

There's so much more of interest going on in Africa than locusts, it's too bad this forum is constantly hyper-focused on the U.S. Understandable, but too bad.

That could be interesting, as long as you don't mind discussing the topic at the standard of undergraduates who skipped the lecture and most of their homework reading.

Heh, yea. I was mostly just kidding, but I do find it fascinating reading about these forgotten regions. CAR in particular is interesting because there's very little writing about it, given it's insignificance to the broader world. Almost no books, no media attention, no blog posts, basically nothing.
