For the last few days or so, there has been a song stuck playing in my head that I have not been able to get out. It is a song that I consider okay, neither like or dislike it strongly, but mostly do not have any strong feelings on it either way. Just trying to get it unstuck!

In the past when I have tried to get some song unstuck from my head, it has sometimes worked to either audibly play some other song (and maybe get that one stuck, maybe not), or do some household chores or run other errands, but just do something in general to divert attention away from that first song itself. Often that will work, and then I consciously realize that it worked, and feel good about the whole thing then, that the prior song is no longer playing in my head...and then guess what happens...yeah, the song immediately gets stuck playing in my head again...

Do you have any particular songs that commonly get stuck playing in your head, especially when you do not want them playing there at the moment? Maybe you like or dislike the song in general, but either way you just want some other thoughts swirling around your mind instead. Maybe the sound or rhythm of that particular song is particularly hard to get out of your mind, once it finds its way in.

Have you found any methods or tricks that have worked particularly well for you in getting songs unstuck? Any that do not really work for you, but that you tried anyway because it has worked for others? Any tricks that work on you for particular songs, or do not work on you for particular songs?

That is the one I have implanted at the moment. Please get it out!

Plenty. I currently have a Paw Patrol related song that I came up with with Skye lamenting about her huge head and the instability it causes her (her figure always falls over in the chopper... or the ground). I also developed the music at least for the verses, not the chorus yet.

I usually just play the song through in my head... and sometimes that works.

Nothing is perfect. Not even a bike ride on a warm summer afternoon. That last song played on the way to the park is going to be the infill for the entire ride. No matter what portion of the lyrics I know or even if I know I'm not getting the lyrics right. There they are. On repeat. Sometimes just one little section of misinterpreted lyrics. Over and over and over. Only finding something purposeful to think about will give some respite.

But, if you have some song that needs to be unstuck, this is the lubricant:

Of course, this brings on yet another problem.

There are various songs in the kids' show Peppa Pig that get stuck in my head and annoy me, ugh.

Lately, though, this has been stuck in my head for the last week. I get rid of it for just a bit, then it comes back. I think it's the guitar.

so is it more effective to listen a similar or dissimilar song to break the spell?
