After subscribing to Foreign Affairs for the past year I've gotten my hands on a few articles on modern Africa. Given the situation in most places there is depressing, but I've found the case studies I've read about so far pretty fascinating.

With that said I'm interested in finding any more sources that describe what's going on on the ground on the continent today. Basically just any good writing on Africa.

So far this is what I've got:
- Al Jazeera
- Foreign Affairs
- The Last Train to Zona Verde

Anyone else got anything?

The Postcolonial State in Africa - Crawford Young

The Postcolonials states in Africa is a rather sad set of histories. A number of these states bought into Marxist/Socialist governments that lead to failed states, economic collapse and authoritative regimes. Others slid into chaos due to lack of competent leaders. many became kelptocracies, strangled in incompetence. Plus other problems such as tribalism, and racist states like South Africa and Rhodesia. Western/Marxist proxy wars.

Thanks for the recommendation, picked this up from my local library today. Extremely well written so far.

Anyone know sources for good information about Tanzania? I'm heading there on a vacation this summer and want to read up about the place.

I like reading the editorials at Pambazuka.org, they tend to offer a very different perspective on things.

Wikipedia might be a decent source if you want to drill down to a specific country.

Everything else I've managed to find are mostly media sites with no real rhyme or reason, just updates on significant events throughout the continent. Might be able to issue some searches for Tanzania on some of these? Also some careful Google searching has gotten me places, but I usually end up on obscure blogs or sites.
