Starbucks to start "RaceTogether" campaign

Yet another case of a company trying to cash in on controversy and on a social issue? This does not surprise me. It disgusts me a little, but it does not surprise me. Reminds me of a great John Oliver This Week Tonight rant about twitter.

“Look companies your silence is never going to be controversial,” Oliver said. “No one will ever go, ‘I can’t believe it. Skittles didn’t tweet about 9-11 yesterday, they must support terrorism. I’m never eating them again.’

“That’s what corporations don’t understand. Twitter is a cocktail party where friends and strangers can meet to chat. Corporations just don’t belong there. It’s like having Tony the Tiger burst into a conversation and saying ‘They’re Greeeaaat! Right guys? Whatever you were talking about…’”

#WeUnderstandThatAsCorporateEntitiesOurPresenceInCertainDiscussionsIsNotAlwaysRequired SoWeWillStriveToLimitOurActivitiesToJustSellingYouShit.

Aside from it treating its employees equally, does anyone really care what Starbucks has to say about race?

Is this a good place to tell the story again of starbucks getting a shakedown by the NAACP?

I shouldn't get into the details, but in the course of my job I saw Schultz be told of an East Coast franchise (maybe Virginia Beach?) shutting down to avoid having the clientele from a black colleges party come there and get rowdy. He was pissed off and thought it extortion and wanted to contact the FBI. But at any rate 2-3 months later they had a 5 year, $2.5 Million partnership with the NAACP.

I wonder if something like that happened again.
