This is the least heard abot bombing ive heard about.
The only heard abot less bombing ive heard about was the one where i blew up a bottle in the forest with some homemade fireworks, but i guess thats ruined now also. Thanks alot.

Yes, the media will not present this the same way as Belgium because America is under attack because Pakistan was bombed isn't as convincing as if Belgium was attacked.
Oddly enough, neither case implies the US is under attack, but you know... some Americans love being fearful.

Of course, I heard about it. Much worse than the bombing in Brussels, and makes me mad. But the difference is that it happened in dontgiveafuckistan so there is nothing really to do except be outraged in social media or go bully some muslims about it. That dies down quickly.
The manhunt in Brussels is at least carried out by European police, so it hit closer to home. That's not to say that I care about the victims more, which I don't, but the consequences are more nuanced for us Europeans and westerners.

It is not about the level of concern or the number of fucks given.
It is about the shock and surprise.
Sadly the behavior of folks in the Islamic world has degraded to the point that them blowing one another up is as news worthy as 'Dog Bites Man'.
But we expect more of people living in advanced, cooperative societies run by the rule of law and order, and the supreme principles that declare the sanctity of life, respect for property, and defense of individual freedom against the ever-prying eyes of the 'communal tyranny'.

What about mass shootings in the US? Have they not degraded to the point that them blowing one another up is as news worthy as 'Dog Bites Man'? Hell even toddler shootings fit this bill.

And remember, there are two parts to it: commonality and expectations.
We expect folks in our societies to hold the same values I mentioned above. And we expect our government institutions, which we empower and fund, to secure the rights that naturally flow from holding those values.
I think accidents are quite a different story.

I'm pretty sure the REST of the civilized world stopped being shocked and outraged by U.S. mass shootings a long time ago.
The toddler ones are interesting. For regular old mass shootings, though, you need to implement the rule you had with Columbia back in the 80s when it wasn't news unless at least ten people died.

If you didn't hear about it, it's only because you weren't paying attention, this was "breaking news" all weekend long from where I was sitting. Not as much air time was devoted to this as there was to talking about the handful of Americans who were killed in the Brussels attacks, but that's pretty much what you expect from US news sources.

Exactly. We don't hear about this because it's not news. The news reports things that aren't the status quo.

No, no, no. You miss the point. See, it's like this: no matter what the behavior is of any religion or non-American, you can't criticize it because well, America. It makes perfect sense. I don't know why it does and no one can actually explain how addressing one issue by not addressing it and then addressing another is perfectly reasonable, but you know.
America has problems too so Muslims blowing people up is totally cool. That's basically the gist of what you're dealing with.

The bombings in Pakistan involve non-Europeans and non-North Americans, so they will get less press. Moreover, since it appears Muslim on Muslim instead of appearing Muslim on innocent white people, it will get less press. And since it helps re-enforce the basic fact that most terroristic Islamic violence is not perpetrated on Christians of European descent but on Muslims, it will get less press.

I've heard plenty about it over the weekend in my normal course of media consumption. The last I heard this morning was though it was assumed to target christians, mostly muslims were killed. Now if there's nothing more in the mainstream is it because it has had it's moment in the sun or has the mostly muslim aspect reordered it to the "who gives a damn" file for the mainstream media.
