The New Hampshire Primaries

Rubio appears to be peeling Kasich and Christie supporters and is now looking at second in the polls, but well shy of Trump. If it holds, Kasich and Bush are done, officially, and Kasich restarts his run for VP. Cruz is in third, however, his next real primary is South Carolina, not New Hampshire. No new polling in SC to determine what is happening since Iowa. Nor in Nevada, which are really four good states to determine how many horses are in this race, one, two, or three.

Yeah, my prayer for Kasich was a hope, not an expectation.

Oops Repugs mention the dastardly rape word

It seems that Christie, Bush, and Graham forgot that Repugs are not supposed to say the "rape" word. And now the extreme anti-abortion group Susan B. Anthony List is getting pissy. I'm sure the gals in NW won't mind. Don't worry guys, Hillary's super-PAC won't use your ammo next fall....:hylidae:

Marjorie Dannenfelser, the president of the anti-choice campaign group the Susan B. Anthony List, sent a letter yesterday to all of the remaining Republican presidential candidates, except for Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio, warning them against criticizing Cruz and Rubio for their extreme, no-exceptions stances on abortion rights.

Although Dannenfelser didn’t name names, Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, who endorsed Jeb Bush after dropping out of the presidential race himself, and Gov. Chris Christie both attacked Cruz and Rubio over their opposition to rape exceptions in separate Morning Joe interviews this week.

Cruz support in new Hampshire collapses

Support for Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) in New Hampshire has collapsed precipitously, according to a Suffolk/Boston Globe poll released Friday which showed him falling from second place to fifth place in the state.

By contrast, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) surged by 9 points to a comparatively secure second place but still trailed the longtime frontrunner, businessman Donald Trump, by a 10-point margin.

The poll showed support for Trump at 29 percent and Rubio at 19 percent. Cruz, at 7 percent support, lagged behind not just Rubio but also Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R) and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R), who came in at 13 percent and 10 percent support, respectively.

Well jeepers! The wind is out of Cruz's sails and the Jebber still lives. Strange polls....

Interested to see polls after these debates. SOme of the pundit comments after were real head-scratchers for me. Some said they think Trump did great. But he got booed massively over eminent domain. That'll play very well for his rivals.

Waiting to see more of the show...

I've seen second place leads, and flavor of the month popularity, shift up and down for many months in NH. NH was never going to be a strong state for Cruz, so any place above 4th is in the plus column for him.

The real question is if Rubio has seriously been damaged in the NH debate. It seems to be universal consensus that he badly choked and withered under Christie's relentless attack, while Christie looked good.

Bush is said to have been unusually solid (for him), and Cruz was authoritative. Trump did well by dialing back the ad homs and sticking to issues.

Most will be watching to see if a) Kashich, Bush, or Christie benefits from Rubios poor performence and if (b) Cruz's effective performance increases his numbers.

But as Nate Silver observed, the people of NH may have seen Rubio's performance differently.

No policies. No plans. No programs for the nation.

These Republicans offer nothing but insults and promises to do great things, without one plan.

And the press lets them get away with it.

The trappings of democracy without any of the benefits as the rich run everything.

Well Rubio was hands down the loser of the last primary. Apparently he wasn't aware of the target on your back when you do well in the previous primary.
