Right behind you so ... BOO!
Basic Beliefs
non-theist, anarcho-socialist
#tdih Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on the bus.

When the story of the Montgomery bus boycott is told merely as a tale of a single heroic person, it leaves children hanging. Not everyone is a hero or heroine. Of course, the idea that only special people can create change is useful if you want to prevent mass movements and keep change from happening. Not every child can be a Rosa Parks, but everyone can imagine herself or himself as a participant in the boycott. As a tale of a social movement and a community effort to overthrow injustice, the Rosa Parks story opens the possibility of every child identifying herself or himself as an activist, as someone who can help make justice happen.

Also today is the birthday of Lou Rawls, Bette Midler and Richard Pryor

Thug.

Police would have been within their rights to shoot her.

I get your point. There is no difference between Rosa Parks and such civil rights heroes as Michael "Spreading the Word of Jesus Christ" Brown, Vonderritt "9mm sammich" Myers, Nicholas "My Maserati does 185" Thomas, Jamar "A Kiss With a Fist" Clark et al.

Of course this was nothing to do with preaching the word of Christ She simply didn't want to be regarded as a lesser person than anyone else. This marked a clear turning point in US history.

Leftie drivel
I wasn't aware that the Superman Syndrome was leftist.

I've seen it discussed in a number of places, our American heroes are all presented as a single person swooping in and making a change, not the leading edge or the public face of a movement.

Which leads to a lot of people standing around, wanting change, or justice or freedom, whatever, but not taking action because we're waiting for Superman, Spiderman, Rosa Parks, George Washington or Randolph Scott to ride in and save the day for us. Or at least show us where to start pushing/pulling/standing.

We'd be better served if Superman had been Everybodyman working a phone tree....

I have no problem with Rosa Parks or the genuine civil rights, although Keith&Co has a good point above. I was responding to ksen and his ridiculous attempt to somehow equate her with those embraced by the #BLM movement who are rightly being called thugs.

And you just don't see why anyone would think such posts are racist. Wow.

Is saying anything bad about or ridicule of any black person (be it a thug like Michael Brown or hypocritical politician like Harold Ford) considered racist now?

Again, my post was a response to ksen's ridiculous equation of Rosa Parks and those thugs supported by BLM movement.

And speaking of December 1st, today is also World AIDS Day.

Hey, thanks for reminding me. I completely forgot to get my crack whore anything. I'll run out to the store at lunch.

Except ksen did not do that.

You did.

ksen names no names nor does he mention BLM. You did both those things. You and you alone.

Bette Midler isn't black.

So she could not have been born on December 1?

White guy gets a vasectomy.

Wife gets pregnant.

Baby born.

White guy says, "Gee, I didn't know having a vasectomy turned babies black."

I don't believe that you are even fooling yourself with such drivel.

He called her a "thug" and mentioned that she should have been shot by police. What else could he have been meaning Athena than to make a connection with the discussion over the BLM movement?
Neither one of you are fooling anyone.

Funny, I was thinking the same about you, Athena and ksen.

I seriously doubt the "thinking" part. Really, what is it about black people that scares you so much that drives your need to use derogatory names and terms when referencing "scary" black people?
