Oh dear, one of my favorite grocery chains is being targeted by the woke for being RAYYCISSST !!111!!!! (sp)

An East Bay teenager is leading a national charge to get Trader Joe’s to change the names on some of its products that she says are racially insensitive. Briones Bedell, 17, of Oakley believes the grocery chain is perpetuating racial stereotypes with products featuring the names such as “Trader Ming's," "Trader José" or "Trader Giotto's." Bedell launched a petition asking the company to remove what she calls is the racist branding and packing from its stores. “It’s insidious though because it's subtle," she said. "They are micro-aggressions, which is a problem because micro-aggressions inevitably escalate. And when we accept this baseline level of stereotyping and othering, we're more likely to accept larger transgressions down the road."

So, no more "Trader Jose" Mexican beer for you !!

Makes me remember a really nice coworker by the name of Ming who killed himself about five years ago. Terrible.

As an aside, I was watching Agents of Shield last week and they called the British agent a teacup and and in another scene "trainspotting" to which he responded that he was not Scottish.

Pretty much any white country, but especially the UK can be the butt of jokes, which I enjoy. Let's spread this joy around.

I'm not sure how this made the news, must have been a slow news day, but I don't see how with all the shit going on in the world.

Seems like a pretty dumb thing to complain about, but then again it came from a 17 year old. I wouldn't have wanted half the shit I did and said at 17 to make the news.

Because news recyclers know that headlines about "woke out of control" are good clickbait for morons.

Because companies these days are afraid of the woke backlash and are therefore caving to the demands of idiotic zoomers.

Did I miss something? Did Trader Joe's actually change anything because of this?

I wouldn't be surprised if this girl doesn't really exist and they (news outlets) are getting played.

Heh. I was thinking more along the lines of this just being a teenager who did not want to go grocery shopping with Mom:

Mom: "I'm going to Trader Joe's, you are coming with me to help me haul groceries around."
Teen: "But I don't wanna!"
Mom: "I don't want to hear any excuses, you're going."
Teen: "But Mom, Trader Joe's is like racially insensitive and stuff, and I just can't stand the micro aggressions..."
Mom: "I'm sorry honey, I didn't know. Tell me all about it, then we will call my friend at the local news."

Probably the name of this juice product -- used to be called "Dixie Peach" but the name has been changed to "Country Peach"

The name "Dixie" has come to be seen as racist, and even sympathetic to slavery.

My guess is that the "Dixie Peach" product had no connection to anything Southern. Most of the peach production in the U.S. is in California.

I actually did miss something, as I caught a report on this last night. Apparently the teen managed to garner 100 signatures in an online petition to Trader Joes, and got them to say that they had previously decided to change those brands to the Trader Joe's brand. Whether that previous decision was due to a previous complaint is not specified.

Interesting, I always thought it was Georgia, because they are the "Peach State". It turns out they aren't even in the top 3, and New Jersey produces more peaches than Georgia.

I suspect that is exactly the reason the name was changed. Dixie peach implies that the peaches came from the south east USA. If that's not where they came from, it should not be on the label. They could actually come from Mexico.

Its a little odd that all this political correctness about brand names & icons is making the universe of food products more "white" by the minute. What major non-white brands/labels are even left anymore? I'm sure some SJW nutter will find something offensive with whatever's left before the end of 2020. It seems to be some sort of game to them. Instead of playing "Where's Waldo?", they're playing "Spot the Racism!".

Make love, not "woke war"!
