Donald Trump is getting a lot of credit for saving some 1000 employees at Carrier in Indiana.

Watch this video from Fox News & Friends with the reporter literally gushing and prompting a worker to say certain things:

Now, in all seriousness, think rationally, the outcome is that the government in Indiana is giving incentives to the company to stay. The state assembly has voted to do that. The governor (Pence) then approves that. How much of that did Trump really do?

Yea, this type of thing happens all the time. I've personally worked with the State of Washington and Oregon in retaining a couple manufacturers who threatened to move. The incentives always involve less taxes, grants, low interest loans, and etc.

I am peripherally aware of many, many grants and other incentives in my state for purpose of growing local economies and supporting certain tech industries, too.

You should watch the video of the FoxNews&Friends reporter. Watch his face as he supports the Trump narrative and talks to one of the workers.

Part of the deal seems to be what I think the government should be doing all along. If you want government contracts, then you have to be manufacturing in the US. As for the rest, light on some details, but it doesn't seem like that great a deal. And of course this one deal will be proudly boasted about for years to come, ignoring all the other jobs being lost with nothing being done about them.

Good news everyone! We don't need the gay pile!

P.S.: And, yes, I know I am mixing my cartoon references.

It doesn't matter whether Trump did anything or not.

The point is that they pursued the same dumb strategy of giving away the store.

Who's going to pay for this?

What about the 1100 Carrier jobs that are still going to Mexico? Who will take the blame for not saving those?

So the US Government promised government contracts to the parent company of Carrier. This is a great strategy. All we need to do is promise contracts to every company that wants to move jobs across the border or ocean. Hopefully there are no other AC units made in the US by other companies.

Duh, Nobama! We gave a lot and only saved half the jobs?

Meanwhile, the Obama Detroit bankruptcy deal was evil!

I will move my tank factory over seas unless I get a contract to build one in the United States!

The whole point is coming up with an excuse to give away the store.

I thought it was a matter or trying to save the remains of the store which isn't yet in Mexico. A Mexit is require d to recover some of our industries.

If you get a contract to built it abroad, you can simply subcontract it to the USA.

Nope. The Berry Amendment requires that DoD purchases must be made in the USA by USA firms, unless the ONLY source is overseas.
Once again, alt-reality logic runs aground on that pesky shoal of actual facts...

ETA: Oh, wait - there's a solution: privatize the military. Surely Trump wouldn't oppose that. I can't wait to see how the modern version of 14th century Europe works out. :)

$700k plus government contracts.

I got a wonderful idea. All this stuff moved to Korea, Mexico, and Japan. Let's declare war on them and annex them them to the United States. Then, all those factories will be in the US again. Derp Derp Derp.:tomato:

In all seriousness, we are going back to a pre-Great Depression economy and pre Cold War economy. The United States was a great mass of mostly poor people with a few percentages of the population being what could be called middle class serving directly under an even smaller elite class.

I knew this stuff would happen when the Soviet Union fell apart. The is no extreme leftist threat for the uber rich to worry about anymore. It is safe to send their investment money to podunk third world claptraps and build a factory there paying peanuts for wages and not have to worry about some commie bogey taking it over or destroying it in a civil war.

God bless the Soviet Union and all the commies. It might have sucked to live in some of the countries run by them but at least it made the folks in the west run their countries for the economic betterment of all lest they turn commie themselves.
