But he didn't propose to cut Social Security itself.

Why would that bother you of all people? Doesn't money come from the government and the only reason we pay taxes is to reabsorb some of the money?

Trump said he wants to make the deferral permanent. So that is defunding. The initial reason was to ‘stimulate’ the economy, but in making it an issue for a permanent cut, he wants to defund social security.

There is no other policy. Trump isn’t looking to equalize the cut. So you bringing up if people would support his suggestion of a tax hike is really a red herring.

Isn't it the case that taxes aren't how we pay for the government? Only weirdos like me think that taxes are how we pay for the government. More enlightened people think that the government creates the money and only uses taxes to soak up excess funds to prevent too much inflation.

So why is cutting these taxes a bad thing? It isn't like the government needs the money to fund the programs. MMT tell us so.
