Twitter likely to take idiots offer to buy them for $43 billion

What part of any of this is the business of a state attorney general?

Today Attorney General Ken Paxton launched an investigation against Twitter for potentially false reporting over its fake bot accounts in violation of the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act.

Here's the act. Please find where it might apply. And explain how bot reports violate it.

I don't know how it violates it. I'm not the AG.

Gifted Link - In reversal, Twitter plans to comply with Musk’s demands for data

After a weeks-long impasse, Twitter’s board plans to comply with Elon Musk’s demands for internal data by offering access to its full “firehose,” the massive stream of data comprising more than 500 million tweets posted each day, according to a person familiar with the company’s thinking, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe the state of negotiations.

The move aims to end a standoff with the billionaire, who has threatened to pull out of his $44 billion deal to buy Twitter unless the company provides access to data he says is necessary to evaluate the number of fake users on the platform.
The information could be provided as soon as this week, the person said. Currently some two dozen companies pay for access to the trove, which comprises not only a real-time record of tweets but the devices they tweet from, as well as information about the accounts that tweet.

As much as I like not seeing Musk in the news, it might be worth asking him if he would still unban Trump, all things considered.

The funny part? He can, but Trump can't post to Twitter... because of his social media site requirements. He is LEGALLY required to post to his site as his primary site and can't copy stuff over to Twitter for a period of time, six hours (which in social media time is two parsecs).

You think Trump pays any attention to legal requirements? Funny stuff.

I'm sure he'll explain it after a thorough investigation.

My thoughts? Some of those Texans are shareholders and publicly misleading shareholders violates the law.

Further, misrepresenting a product is also a potential violation of the law both with respect to consumers of the service and advertisers who wish their money to be spent advertising to people, not to blind, deaf machines which only expel rather than receive information, or for whom the information they consume is not even remotely relevant to advertiser interests.

These are valid concerns to have about the level of bots as regards oversight and ethical business operations.

I would say there are bigger concerns in all this. There are some major issues with the ability for a louder voice, of unlimited reach and control only limited by how much you can brainwash your base, to be up for purchase, sale, or even private control free of public oversight.

Looks like it's definitely off now.

Must be the first time Musk has ever pulled out.

Twitter stock price has dropped considerably, so of course Musk wants to weasel out, but that's likely just so he can make another, lower offer.

$34 a share now. Musk is still trying to sell his red herring sashimi. Hope the price drops below where he bought the 10% of Twitter shares.

Out of spite, I hope the price drops and Musk is forced by the courts to abide by his earlier offer. That would be a $44 billion pie in his face.

But I don't think it matters in the long run. He'll buy twitter eventually either way.

I doubt it. The company isn't worth jack. They barely make money to begin with. It is doubtful he could ever break even. Give him it for $25 billion, still not a wise idea to buy a poorly monetized social media company that is long in the tooth. Of course, no one will say yes to selling their shares for that price either. Musk wants out. He was on a polar high and had the delusions that come with such things.

I don't think he's out to make money with Twitter. He's got an agenda.
