I suspect it's something extraordinarily dull, but my nephew found this and wants to know what it is. DSC_0041.JPG

The little pods or what ever they are were about 1/2 to 1 inch long. We found a few bunches of them, typically attached to pebbles and shells. He fancies it something exotic like eggs of some sort but I haven't a clue what they are.

Anyone know?

Why would eggs be exotic? They look either like some aquatic type of eggs; or some sort of mushrooms. The latter don't really make sense for the location though.

My best guess would be the settling or juvenile phase of a mollusk, possibly a variety of barnacle.

Sea squirts. Doing some Googling of images of sea squirts there's some that match exactly what I found. Thanks Peez!
