The claim that the official US version provides an honest, forthright accounting is unsustainable. The version offered by Zero Dark Thirty substitutes pulp fiction – of the mythological kind – for truth. It satisfies a gnawing hunger; it meets a powerfully felt need. It allows us to avoid coming to terms with how America went off the rails after 9/11. It fosters the juvenile in us.

The argument in the link sounds to me like a big argument from incredulity.

And it still doesn't answer the question of why such a complete fabrication.
 
And bin Laden hasn't posted a message since the attack because?

If we want to go conspiracy, at least work on a good one. bin Laden was captured immediately after 9/11. Torture and stuff, and the Bush Admin used him to create those videos to keep Americans scared on the road to try to invade Iraq and to support torture and not get upset over a massive metadata sniffing program, among other Bush Admin aims. Obama gets elected. Finds out the truth. He can't go public with it, so they have to fabricate an entire story in order to be able to write bin Laden off the script without people knowing we had him the entire time.

There! Not only coherent, but seemingly plausible too. A certain Parallax View quality I must say.

And just to close the loop - since no body was found he was shunted into a new identity operating the Master Bait & Tackle shop in Tuscaloosa under the moniker Billy Ray Bin Laden.
