Why should Catholic Priests have one on one access to anybody, ever?

Why have confession, why have altar boys in the method they currently serve?

Pathetic. Mindless sheep followers.

Once the acts of abuse of power by having this one on one access occur then after time these sexual abuse scandals (even the bureaucratic scope they reach) are 100% inevitable.

The Mormons have no tradition of a confessional. The do have testimonials. You stand up in the middle of services and speak your mind. Usually, it's about how great God is, how wonderful it is to be Christain, Mormon, American, or whatever.

ONE TIME, a woman stood up and decided to share her sins with the congregation.
She started naming names, mostly the married men who sinned with her. Dad was already speeding us out the door before she statred describing individual acts.
There were probably a few in that ward wishing that we had adopted private, one-on-one confessions, at least that day.

It’s probably because they have all these teaching and counselling and other roles where that’s a part of it and only a trivially small number of priests do anything wrong in those situations.
