Rudy has lost a defamtion suit to rwo Georgia poll workers. Moe importantly, this should be a warning to other GOP liars who defame people.

Two Georgia election workers Rudy Giuliani allegedly defamed have won their case against him.

Ruby Freeman and her daughter Wandrea "Shaye" Moss sued Giuliani for defamation and false statements following the 2020 presidential election.

On Wednesday, U.S. District Court Judge Beryl A. Howell entered a default judgment against the former New York mayor. A defendant can be ruled in default if they don't answer a complaint against them or fail to attend hearings.
The order states that a "default judgment will be entered against defendant Rudolph W. Giuliani on his liability for plaintiffs' defamation, intentional infliction of emotional distress, civil conspiracy, and punitive damage claims, pursuant to Federal Rules of criminal procedure.

The judge ordered both sides to agree on a future trial date for damages.

This is sloppy reporting by rawstory.com.

Once the case has been won, the word "alleged" no longer applies. Giuliani didn't allegedly defame these election workers, he defamed them.

That's the actual substance of the actual ruling on which they're allegedly reporting.
 
I hope they are able to collect, they deserve it. Blood from a stone, though, might be difficult to extract.

Maybe they can have his house.

Isn't Rudy just going to drag out the appeals process for years?
 
Probably not. He chose not to appear in court. That fact is undeniable. He refused to participate in discovery. Again. An undeniable fact. And the law is clear, a defendent who refuses to show up in court as directed loses. Any appeals court is not going to allow an appeal. The facts are clear, and Guiliani and lawyers will swiftly be denied certiorari, right to appeal. Rudy is screwed. There can be no court error to justify reconsidering a case.

That's still less than $150K.
He's probably spent that much on hookers for one party.

Fair enough, but I don't see the play here. "Nah, I admit it but I ain't paying" isn't the sort of defense I'd expect from someone with Rudy's *ahem* legal experience. What's the end game? Does he actually think that Trump is going to win and pardon him from having to pay?

Earlier on Wednesday, Salon reported on the "financially ruinous" damages Rudy Giuliani has been hit with in the aftermath of his many legal woes, and the full extent of that is beginning to form a clear picture.

On the hook for "thousands, if not millions, of dollars," according to CNN, the former NYC mayor and Trump lawyer is scraping up cash however possible — including listing his Manhattan apartment for sale.

Per a report from The New York Times, the apartment went on the market in July for the asking price of $6.5 million.

Think he chose to default because the documents they wanted in discovery would probably implicate him in some of the other cases against him

The court now decides how much he’ll pay in damages. The legal fee reimbursement is automatic and has nothing to do with actual or punitive damages.

Except they didn't win--this is a default judgment.
