Trudeau Steps Down

Drunk on power. What a smug little shit she is.

That was three weeks into shutting down portions of a city.

An NFL QB kneels and you require the need for clean underwear... or if some people block a highway ramp or a highway... but shutdown portions of a city for three weeks because of Covid restrictions... and you seem to have an issue seeing a problem.

As I understand it, Justin seized "Go Fund Me" accounts that were sent to truckers by people who believed in their political cause. The taking of funds of a private transaction represented by 2 private parties. Perhaps a case could even be made against the conduct of the truckers that they might not be considered a political protest event, But what about the people who sent the money to them? What did they do wrong except for giving to charity to help people survive? It was despot thug tyranny in the first degree.

Canada is lucky to be rid of him.
Sorry, but your description of the wrong doesn't match up with what you are saying happened.

They were blocking support of illegal behavior, not seizing assets without a finding of guilt. The Go Fund Me is inherently support for illegal activities.

I wonder if the GoFundMe money was enough to cover the costs the truckers imposed on the Canadian people. Or even the costs to tow the trucks that were blocking traffic.

ETA ~ I wonder if people like RVonse also object when the government seizes money carried by drug dealers, since it's all private funds.~

Its the same tactics the IRS uses on US citizens. The authorities can come in at anytime and empty your bank savings even before due process or coming to any judge. Whether those affected people got refunded later is not known to me. But that is irrelevant to the terror of the tyranny that was taking place, nor would those people have any idea their money might be returned later at the moment it took place.
You realize that this only happens when someone has a large amount of cash inconsistent with their income? It's usually people who were working under the table.

I do if it's without due process. This is exactly how our founding fathers felt about this too.

You are no doubt correct about this.

But there needs to be due process! No due process is WORSE than letting bad guys go. See historical quotes from our US founders.

I'm not sure what due process looks like in Canada concerning the funding of criminal behavior. I'm sure that the American founding fathers feelings are not top of their priorities.
Heck, those are not terribly important here in the USA.

Sadly not anymore

Trudeau enemies and detractors have consistently shown to be the worst of the worst. Putin, Musk, Trump, Orban, Rogan, J Peterson, Tucker, Maga, and every bot from Mar-a-lago to St Petersburg. He is one of the few beacons of the successes of social democracy and he stands in the way of a global Oligarchy. His handling of the idiot convoy that was fuelled by our own Conservative Party (they are on camera stating their plan to exacerbate the diss informed rage) and illegal crypto funnelled in by US conservative interests was solid. He shut it down after he let the moronic (and nationally embarrassing) spectacle to continue for weeks.

His enemies wanted him to call in the military - they funded the chaos hoping that would force the military into action, making for some great anti-Canadian propaganda. Trudeau didn’t take the bait.

The first paragraph of our emergency act states that the govt has the ability to shut down a protest when the public is in danger. It was a brilliant solution.

My favourite part was the collective exploding head of every crypto bro (and Musk) as Freeland calmly stated that the foreign interference bitcoin accounts HAD BEEN FROZEN. Still makes me smile.

However, the Canadian Conservative Party has done an excellent job (along with well documented US and Russian foreign interference) gaslighting Canadians that global recession is JTs fault,

Did you hear that Maga? You were wrong about Joe, it was Trudeau that caused global gas prices to rise, food prices to rise, and supply chain inflation. I know this in Canada because the conservatives have not talked about anything else for years.

The US fell for it hook line and sinker, and thanks a US controlled media in Canada, and an extremely dishonest opposition, we will too.

The US is circling the drain and they are going to take us down with them.

The founding fathers didn't even believe in them.

They were very big on rights for the wealthy WASP males that ran everything (that mattered). Indigenous, black, female, papist, and poor people didn't matter.
Don't get me started on the gay thing.

So we've gone from 'they stole millions from people' to 'there wasn't enough due process'. I suppose that is some kind of progress.

This is fallout from the drug war. Do you not realize that I'm strongly opposed to the drug war?

Your stance on due process should not waiver regardless of a drug war, tax cheat, or snoop dogg violence. Everyone must be presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law! Otherwise your government is WORSE than the criminals.

But I am glad you are at least opposed to the drug war.

Are you suggesting they weren't in Ottawa?

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau steps down after a long run in the PM spot, as the leader of Canada. Justin Trudeau exemplifies the phrase "well spoken", as it seemed his best attribute. His father, Pierre Trudeau, was a noted figurehead PM back in the 70s/80s. A royal pain in the GOP ass, back when the GOP weren't a bunch of Gumbys. Trudeau spoke very well, in a Clinton-esque sort of way. He seemingly bumbled from time to time, but he was always able to get through it.

The Liberal Party is suffering from "Been in power too long" angst. And Trudeau was the focal point for this. The Canadian public is generally liberal, and the NDP stopped fucking elections up for the Liberals, which with dealing with "Been in power too long" angst impacting the Conservatives, helped the liberal folks regain power a decade ago. The Liberals are trying not to cede power back to the conservatives. Chrystia Freeland and Mélanie Joly are likely the front runners for the PM post and will try to both 1) right the Liberal ship before elections in October to maintain control of Parliament and consequently 2) not repeat a Kim Campbell and be the second woman in Canadian (-ien) history to serve about 6 to 8 months.

I ponder a shift to Quebec to try and solidify votes and going with Joly.

Liberals aren't winning the next election.

I watch The National in the morning. The Liberal that has a good shot at taking the party lead said she'd reverse the capital gains tax increase. That was the point I knew the Libs were in grave trouble. Really, it has been a long while, so a swap was likely. Conservatives need to sweep Liberal seats and not just see the liberal seats head to the NDP (Vancouver, Maritimes) or BQ (Montreal). Conservatives need +43 seats for an outright majority. I have a hard time thinking they can coalition something up. Maybe they are already there. Montreal, Vancouver, Toronto are the big areas where ridings are available.

According to your link, it'll be an ass whooping, with a 96 seat gain. Yes, I'm transposing seats and ridings.

We need an anti-fascist coalition. The NDP and Liberals must unite. In the Western provinces, the provincial Liberals have basically folded, some Liberals going to the Right, some to the Left. This makes the NDP a serious threat in all four Western provinces. We need to do something similar nationally. The alternative is to wait and see if Milhouse really is all that bad.

You seem to think I'm in support of such seizures. I am not.

But the reality is that most of them are guilty. It's not anything like you imagine. People almost never engage in entirely legal large cash transactions. Large sums are almost inevitably either for illegal transactions or involve untaxed money they don't want to leave a paper trail. I certainly would not be willing to accept any large cash payment from a safety standpoint!

Anytime I've purchased a used car from a private seller it was a cash transaction. Thousands of dollars in cash.
