The U.S. Department of Defense spends a lot of money on weaponry, but it also spends a lot of money on erectile dysfunction medication, reported CBS News.

Just last year, the DoD spent $41.6 million on Viagra and another $84.2 million on other erectile dysfunction pills like Cialis and Levitra. CBS reported that “since 2011, the bill for covering drugs like Viagra, Cialis, and Levitra for active and retired military personnel and eligible family members totalled $294 million.”

Omg, they're going to fuck ISIS to death!!!

I'd like to meet the person who got that $41 million viagra. He's probably in Iraq right now, mowing down ISIS fighters by swinging his giant penis side to side, like Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy.

Probably just due to a simple mis-parsing of "We have heard worrying reports of the General Staff not properly standing to attention. Please ensure this never happens again."

Since the defense department provides heathcare for millions of veterans why would this be surprising to anyone?

ED drugs are standard medical care.

Viagra etc... have other legitimate medical uses besides as boner pills. I doubt most of those purchases were for those other uses.

The molecule in Viagra is also used for things like pulmonary hypertension, but not Viagra. It is a different dose. Viagra is only used for ED.

It's just funny, that's all.

Also $294 million is one hell of a lot of viagra.

I'm 71 and I've never touched the stuff. Could it be there is still ANOTHER REASON TO NOT GO TO WAR? Could it have something to do with the DU shielding on the bottoms of Abrams tanks?

Sure, but go spend one day in a busy pharmacy at the beginning of the month. You will see a lot of prescriptions for ED drugs.

These drugs are widely used. That's why they have so much money for commercials.

Keywords: "...and retired..."

Why is anyone surprised at this? Being a veteran somehow makes you immune to dick issues?

I know Ciallis is sometimes prescribed for men after their prostatectomies in order to get more blood flow.

Perhaps they are hoping the ISIS crowd (AKA Daesh) will be so stiff they won't be able to fight. Or else they'll have their hands full.

They do promote blood flow so it is possible.

But the majority of the time these drugs are used for ED.

And if you watch the commercials, if you watch golf there is an ED drug commercial every 5 minutes, the only use they sell these drugs for is ED.

What's surprising is the effort to figure out what part of the defense budget went to hard-on pills. I just keep seeing George Carlin's pharmacist, taking out women's prescriptions for The Pill at night and reading them...

Probably not.
I used to sleep between nuclear weapons, on a nuclear-powered submarine.
Twenty years handling nukes one way or another and a career recorded dosage of 1 full REM.

I didn't have erectile problems until ten years into retirement, when the diabetes hit.

And if it matters to anyone, all my prescriptions are through work, not through my retired military benefits.

There's no end to Viagra jokes. Where do you get hard water? Viagra Falls. haha, never gets old. It's mostly women who tell me these little quips, I suppose because the thought of a bunch of frustrated old men desperate to have sex one more time, is just funny. Old geezers in bathrobes pushing a walker down the hall in hot pursuit of that hot septuagenarian in the next room does make a funny image.

Beyond the jokes, there is a reality to Viagra similar drugs. Every man who takes Viagra has a woman in his life and he wants to keep her happy. Age is an equal opportunity devastator for men and women alike. About the time a man realizes it takes a lot more time than it once did to get an erection, the woman looks at her naked self in the mirror and thinks there's no wonder it takes him longer. The man looks at the same naked woman and thinks she is worth the effort of going to a doctor and saying, "Can you give me something?"

No man ever swallowed a Viagra because he was hoping for a more fulfilling masturbation experience.
