The straw poll results from CPAC you were waiting on

When it comes to conservatives, such polls should be called "Strawman polls", since support is gained by fueling fears about the strawmen depictions of various groups from homosexuals and secularists, to teachers and union workers.

Not all clown cars look traditional

But there is only one clown in it. Of course, that was your point.

therefore not a clown car QED

One of the main reasons that a healthy society ignores conservatives. They fill their own ranks through fear mongering. Among the other reasons is that their position on needed change is always the same, "No!" They can gain their goals through obstruction.

Of course, there is increasingly no reason to hang these problems on today's Republican party. They are beyond "conservative" on the political spectrum all of the way to "reactionary." They want to rollback previous changes in society. The only thing that seems to be up for debate within the party is how far they want to rollback to, the choices being the 1950's, the gilded age or the middle ages.

You can tell they are reactionary as they really have no plans of their own.

And some high profile Democrats explicitly want no more than one clown in the car.

One of the true successes of the wealthy is not only have they pushed the Republicans from being right of center to full brown ”conservative/reactionary," but they have pushed the Democrats rightward too. The Democrats went from the New Deal to being the neo-Republicans, the party of fiscal responsibility. No one exemplifies this more than Wall Street's favorite Democrat, Hillary Clinton.

they used to have plans of their own but when obama started getting them passed the republicans all of a sudden decided their former plans were going to destroy america

Reactionaries do have a plan, they want to rollback fifty years or so of social progress. They can't rely on the bare majority of reactionaries on the Supreme Court to accomplish this, at some point they will have to pass legislation to do it. (Conservative judges respect precedent.)

And they only have this small window of two years to do it in with Obama as the president. They will lose the Senate in 2016 and possibly the House, and face another Democrat in the White House. The vast majority of the Senators running for re-election in 2016 are Republican seats and they will face the presidential year voter turn out greater than the 42% or so that the Republicans depend on being below to stay in power.

Walker is doing surprisingly well. Will he be a Mitt, a Rick Perry, or..... Bush I? Bush II? The reincarnation of St. Ronnie Himself?

Wow, the first tu quoque fallacy was on the first page of this thread.

I wish I could say I was surprised.

It's not tu quoque as it wasn't meant as a serious argument, just a tongue-in-cheek riff on the "clown car" theme.

I wish I could say I was surprised at your reaction to it though.

On a more serious note, what do you think of Hilldebeest's use of personal email for work as SecState?
Why the Hillary Clinton email revelations are a significant problem
Dude, I was so totally not being serious, but seriously, she is a complete wanker.

I hate FPTP polls. They don't measure how well candidates are liked. The best we get is that 25.7% like Rand Paul as their favorite. How does the other 74.3% feel about him though? They should at least do a second poll with approval voting. I'd bet the only reason Rand Paul does so well is because the other candidates split the vote.

Rand Paul always wins the CPAC straw poll. This is his third straight victory. There are lots of libertarians in the American Conservative Union. These are the people who booed Dick Cheney the last time he dared to appear. This year they walked out on Jeb Bush.

Before Rand Paul won these straw polls, Ron Paul did.
