Are self-driving cars safe to buy yet? Are they AI driven?

Someone who should know says:

“Self-driving cars are not yet considered completely safe to buy for full unsupervised use, and most vehicles on the road with these features still require active human oversight. They are indeed driven by advanced AI, but there are still significant safety and reliability challenges that prevent self-driving cars from matching, let alone exceeding, the safety records of careful human drivers in all conditions.”

Learning about the top five dangers of using self-driving cars will help you understand the risks of autonomous vehicles.
  • Vehicle crashes: Automated systems can malfunction. ...
  • Pedestrian accidents: Automated systems don't respond to people or animals. ...
  • Self-driving cars are fire hazards. ...
  • Hacking. ...
  • Health risks.

Self driving cars are trained by us answering catchpas. But I have yet to see any catchpas featuring people.

CAPTCHA is an acronym for "Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart," and it's a security measure to distinguish between human users and automated bots. It works by presenting a challenge that is easy for humans to solve but difficult for machines, such as deciphering distorted text, identifying objects in images, or solving puzzles.

How it works
  • Human vs. computer difference:
CAPTCHAs leverage the difference between how humans and computers process information. Humans are naturally good at tasks like visual recognition, but computers, despite advancements in AI, have historically struggled with them.
  • Distinguishing users:
When you encounter a CAPTCHA, you're being asked to prove you're human by completing the challenge, which keeps bots from performing actions like spamming websites, creating fake accounts, or buying up all tickets to an event.

  • Types of CAPTCHAs
  • Text-based:
You must enter distorted letters and numbers from an image.
    • Image-based:
You select all images that contain a specific object, such as a "crosswalk" or "traffic light," from a grid of pictures.

      Audio-based:
Visually impaired users can listen to and transcribe a series of numbers or letters.

      Invisible:
More modern versions, like some reCAPTCHA implementations, analyze user behavior like mouse movement and IP address in the background to verify they are human without presenting a visible challenge, according to stytch.com
