MTG resigning

The American people lost a rare voice that spoke for them.

Yes. This is the genius who
  • Thought Obama was born in Kenya and is a Muslim.
  • Thought the 9/11 attacks were orchestrated by the CIA.
  • Thought that storms and forest fires were being caused by -- what's her latest view? -- either the Deep Liberal State or the Rothschild family.
  • Thought the Parkland and Sandy Hook massacres were either "false flag" operations by anti-gun activists, or outright hoaxes (with the crying families played by Hollywood actors).
  • Thought JFK Jr's 1999 airplane accident was "another murder" orchestrated by the Clintons.
  • Showed her respect by repeatedly interrupting Obama's SoU address.
Yes, she did speak for a large number of Americans and will be missed!
Good new is that of course she won't become a Democrat -- that would cause the average IQ of both parties to plummet.

How many of these six MTG ideations were spoken for you, @RVonse ?

I view her as a casualty of the Epstein files.

Whatever.

Yes. This is the genius who
... was and is and has been a crisis actor this whole GD time, and I don't believe for a second was sincere about any of it.

RFK has more credulity, which only comes because of brain worms...

Oh no! Anyway...

It's not rare to be a rabid conspiracy theorist these days. I.e., Jewish space lasers.
I heard her say on some tv show that she believed in all kinds of stupid conspiracy theories in recent past because she spent too much time on social media. She admitted she was wrong. I worry more that some even nuttier member of the cult will end up replacing her and then be elected again next. year. At least she was starting to show signs of adulthood and she was willing to stand up, at least to some extent to asshole who is president.

Here’s how a special election for a vacant congressional seat works in Georgia:

  • Georgia law requires the governor to issue a writ calling a special election for a U.S. House vacancy within 10 days of the vacancy. Greene’s resignation takes effect Jan. 5, 2026.
  • The special election date must be at least 30 days after the writ is issued. If no candidate receives a 50% majority, a runoff between the top two is held 28 days after the special election.
  • County superintendents and the Secretary of State handle the special election.
  • Candidate qualifying windows for special elections are set by the Georgia Secretary of State and the governor. For many special contests qualifying is short and typically closes several weeks before the election to allow ballot printing and absentee processing.

It's not going to take long to replace her, and my concern is that we may end up with someone worse than her, considering how much she has changed recently. Trump will likely endorse the worst candidate and considering how red that district is, we may start missing MTG. Her district borders on rural Tennessee. That should tell you all enough. One can only hope my fears are wrong.

My own district is very red, partly due to gerrymandering. It includes my slightly majority Black city but then stretches way out to some very red rural areas. Until Democrats figure out how to attract more working class rural voters, it's going to be difficult to win districts like MTGs. There is only one small city in MTG's district.

That would have been a neat trick, considering Obama was out of office several years before MTG even got elected. Or did she sneak in through the bathroom window as an ordinary civilian? Enquiring minds want to know...

Go ahead, laugh. When the space lasers get you, it won't be funny.

I am Jewish so maybe they won't. Then again I don't support Israel so maybe. *shrug*

Your list is too short -- MTG provides a flaming feast of crazy.
(Some housekeeping: it was Biden's State of the Union in which she heckled the President like some night club lout. Another poster seems to think that getting the name wrong erases her disrespect.)
Here's some more of Marge's greatest hits:

> Thinks QAnon is real.
> Thinks Trump won by a landslide in '20 and predicted he'd be reinstalled as Pres. in August '21
> Thinks the Pentagon was probably not hit by a plane on 9/11
> Thinks Hurricane Helene was created to throw off the '24 election
> Called Ukraine a Nazi state; praised Putin
> Said Covid mandates equalled what happened in the Holocaust
> Has repeatedly called the Democrats the 'party of pedophiles'
> Had to apologize to the father of a mentally challenged boy for her use of the word retard, which she first excused by saying it's in the dictionary
> Said Nancy Pelosi committed treason and that the penalty is death; has said the same about numerous Democrats
> Thinks the 1/6 insurrection was planned by the left
> Climate change is "a scam"; "This earth warming and carbon is actually healthy for us. It helps us feed people, and it keeps people alive."
> The country needs a national divorce between the red and blue states.

And there's so much more. She's a 100% zany, and there are so many more like her in the party.

I'll fully accept it's entirely possible that she is/was that far down the rabbit hole and that sponge-brained.

I expect it's far more likely that she was exactly the sort who understood it was bullshit and didn't care.

She has been completely shameless for the sake of money, for the sake of this grift.

Whether she is so soft that she really believed it or whether she believes it the way an angry person in a mob has, for the moment, suspended their doubt in their cause.

I think we'll know more for sure once we see what befalls her following her exit from politics.

I have no reason to question that. It can be said about many MAGA pols, and especially about Trump himself, who clearly is in politics for the purposes of ego inflation and wallet inflation.
The many Repubs who were foes of Trump until mid-2016 shows that they have zero integrity. Lillian Hellman coined a term for the McCarthy years -- Scoundrel Time -- that applies much better to what is before us now. If I quoted Lindsey Graham's takedowns of Trump circa late 2015/early 2016, it would be virulent enough to qualify as what the base calls TDS.

MTG’s description of Congress was spot on. "Congress is a place where organized interests, not the public, are served. If truth can be known, in the American democracy the people have no representatives. Congress represents Israel, the military/security complex and Big Pharma." I challenge anyone on this board in their right mind who can argue against that statement?

Unlike Trump, Greene remained loyal to the MAGA movement throughout her time in congress. She was one of the only members of Congress to visit Jan. 6 protestors when they were imprisoned in the gulag DC jail and she frequently questioned why American taxpayers were supporting Ukraine, “nuclear Israel,” and other foreign nations.

I view her as a casualty of the Epstein files.
Please: Politics is now the plaything of billionaires.
