Trump's Appointments

Among the Appointments during Trump-45 was making Jared Kushner -- the callow criminal's son who married Princess Ivanka -- to be Czar of Everything. W haven't heard much about him during Trump-47, but he hasn't gone away.

I'll excerpt from this Alternet article which references this report, which now returns Error 404.

Adam Lynch said:
Salon reporter Sophia Tesfaye says “the speed and scale of Jared Kushner’s re-emergence can’t be overstated,” and neither can his corruption.

“In the first year of Donald Trump’s second presidency, his son-in-law is casually consolidating economic and political power with staggering speed,” said Tesfaye. “Kushner has positioned himself at the center of the biggest media merger in years and at the fulcrum of White House foreign policy, all while taking in multi-billion-dollar investments from autocratic governments.”

Tesfaye said Paramount Skydance recently launched a bid to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery through a hostile takeover. Paramount’s offer draws heavily from Kushner’s investment firm, Affinity Partners, and from the sovereign wealth funds of Middle Eastern autocracies Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar. Which would give them — and Kushner — influence over some of America’s most powerful news and cultural engines

“The partnership is unprecedented,” said Tesfaye. “Not even Rupert Murdoch’s right-wing media empire was capitalized by foreign monarchies seeking political leverage.

[I omit details of U.S. media being taken over by Trump family and Arab countries in deference to copyright.]

But Kushner’s influence is not limited to the media, said Tesfaye. Weeks ago, he proved a central actor behind Trump’s new Gaza initiative, and he’s quietly inserted himself into Trump’s Ukraine diplomacy, Tesfaye said.
. . .
“Kushner’s sudden, sweeping reappearance is not a coincidence or a comeback,” said Tesfaye. “It is a consolidation. He’s back to lead a hostile takeover of our information ecosystem.”

@RVonse -- You focus much attention on Paul Pelosi's wife; her "crime" is that she and her husband (a professional investor) outperformed the S&P-500. Were you delighted when a disciple of the Orange Messiah took a hammer to the husband of this Mafia Queen, Evil Incarnate herself? For someone who knows nothing of Hegseth and the other MAGA nincompoops, you sure take a lot of interest in Pelosi!

What's your comment on the corruption of Trump and his cabinet? Did you celebrate when Pam Bondi fired her department's ethics officer? Was he just another corrupt hold-over from Sleepy Joe or Sleepy Hussein? (He was initially appointed by Sleepy George, but I want to play along with your insistence on blaming all corruption on "the libruls" while pranting about bipartisanship.)

The Guardian reports incoming Attorney General Pam Bondi had no place for ethics training while taking the reins at the Department of Justice.

“I think the reason to fire the senior ethics attorney at DOJ is pretty clear. It’s to send a message,” said Joseph Tirrell, an attorney responsible for overseeing ethics compliance across the agency and training top officers in their obligation. “The message is: ‘Do what we tell you to do, or you’ll lose your job.’”

Tirrell was nearing the end of a July vacation when he got an email from the Department of Justice on his personal account. The notice, signed by Bondi, misspelled his name as “Jospeh W Tirrell,” and did not give a reason for his firing. The Guardian reports Tirrell bosses initially seemed as surprised as he was before confirming that he had indeed been removed from the payroll.

Tirrell, 51, joined the FBI as an ethics lawyer in 2006 before moving to the justice department in 2018. During that time, he fielded requests about whether or not employees could accept certain gifts or attend certain events and other conflicts of interests. He notes that Bondi and her chief of staff appeared focused on questions of whether the attorney general could accept commemorative challenge coins from subordinates in the department during training.

“There seemed to be a lot of importance by these officials placed on [the] appearance of them getting stuff, on the appearance of them showing their willingness to accept that gift,” Tirrell said.

Tirrell recalls telling Bondi: “We’ve pretty much said you can’t accept gifts from employees unless it’s your birthday or Christmas or Hanukkah or a similar kind of holiday where people give gifts,” and added that “We spent more time than I thought was warranted on … whether or not you could accept a challenge coin from whomever.”

The story contains a link to the Alternet, but please do try to find a factual error in it. I got it from Alternet.org which @Loren Pechtel considers unusually unreliable. If you find even a single fault in an Alternet story, you will best Loren's record -- he's up to Zero. (By this measure, the NY Times is far less reliable than Alternet: I can think of three major errors off the top of my head.)

Six weeks ago, Senator Mark Kelly — and five other members of Congress — released a reckless and seditious video that was clearly intended to undermine good order and military discipline. As a retired Navy Captain who is still receiving a military pension, Captain Kelly knows he is still accountable to military justice. And the Department of War — and the American people — expect justice.

Therefore, in response to Senator Mark Kelly’s seditious statements — and his pattern of reckless misconduct — the Department of War is taking administrative action against Captain Mark E. Kelly, USN (Ret). The department has initiated retirement grade determination proceedings under 10 U.S.C. § 1370(f), with reduction in his retired grade resulting in a corresponding reduction in retired pay.

To ensure this action, the Secretary of War has also issued a formal Letter of Censure, which outlines the totality of Captain (for now) Kelly’s reckless misconduct. This Censure is a necessary process step, and will be placed in Captain Kelly’s official and permanent military personnel file.

Captain Kelly has been provided notice of the basis for this action and has thirty days to submit a response. The retirement grade determination process directed by Secretary Hegseth will be completed within forty five days.

Captain Kelly’s status as a sitting United States Senator does not exempt him from accountability, and further violations could result in further action.

These actions are based on Captain Kelly's public statements from June through December 2025 in which he characterized lawful military operations as illegal and counseled members of the Armed Forces to refuse lawful orders. This conduct was seditious in nature and violated Articles 133 and 134 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice, to which Captain Kelly remains subject as a retired officer receiving pay.

Over twenty-five years in the U.S. Navy, thirty-nine combat missions, and four missions to space, I risked my life for this country and to defend our Constitution – including the First Amendment rights of every American to speak out. I never expected that the President of the United States and the Secretary of Defense would attack me for doing exactly that.

My rank and retirement are things that I earned through my service and sacrifice for this country. I got shot at. I missed holidays and birthdays. I commanded a space shuttle mission while my wife Gabby recovered from a gunshot wound to the head– all while proudly wearing the American flag on my shoulder. Generations of servicemembers have made these same patriotic sacrifices for this country, earning the respect, appreciation, and rank they deserve.

Pete Hegseth wants to send the message to every single retired servicemember that if they say something he or Donald Trump doesn’t like, they will come after them the same way. It’s outrageous and it is wrong. There is nothing more un-American than that.

If Pete Hegseth, the most unqualified Secretary of Defense in our country’s history, thinks he can intimidate me with a censure or threats to demote me or prosecute me, he still doesn’t get it. I will fight this with everything I’ve got — not for myself, but to send a message back that Pete Hegseth and Donald Trump don’t get to decide what Americans in this country get to say about their government.

Which of Trump's appointments are most evil?

How about Steven Miller who believes that the US has the right to take Greenland because the US is stronger.

The fact that there is no Hell, is proven by the fact that Stephen Miller isn’t burning in it.
That fucker is evil incarnate.

By his argument, the 300 pound bully with a gun has the right to rob him of all of his posessions because the bully is stronger.

Miller wouldn't burn in hell, he'd simply be at home.

Trump, Miller, Hegseth, we are looking at the very bottom of the barrel in leadership quality and they are lecturing about strength, patriotism, and leadership?!

Probably have to put on a pair of socks so his feet don't get cold.

The drunk Fox host censured Senator Kelly and reduced his retirement rank from Captain to presumably Commander and so reduced his retirement pay over the don't follow illegal orders video.

Kelly filed a lawsuit today in response.

Lawyers for Sen. Mark Kelly filed a lawsuit Monday seeking to block Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth’s move to cut Kelly’s retirement pay and reduce his rank in response to Kelly’s urging of US service members to refuse illegal orders. The lawsuit argues punishing Kelly violates the First Amendment and will have a chilling effect on legislative oversight.

“If permitted to stand, the Secretary’s censure and the grade-determination proceedings that he has directed will inflict immediate and irreparable harm,” the lawsuit says. “The censure, the grade-reduction process, and its inevitable outcome impose official punishment for protected speech, chill legislative oversight, and threaten reductions in rank and pay.”

No doubt in my mind that Hagshit's actions were pure retaliation against Kelly. Chief Piece-o-shit had called the video seditious.

Trump's EPA chief has decided that the EPA will no longer consider the health benefits from reducing air pollution when setting air quality rules. Great. So what's to stop the EPA from never protecting air quality?

In a reversal, the agency plans to calculate only the cost to industry when setting pollution limits, and not the monetary value of saving human lives, documents show.

Under President Trump, the E.P.A. plans to stop tallying gains from the health benefits caused by curbing two of the most widespread deadly air pollutants, fine particulate matter and ozone, when regulating industry, according to internal agency emails and documents reviewed by The New York Times.

It’s a seismic shift that runs counter to the E.P.A.’s mission statement, which says the agency’s core responsibility is to protect human health and the environment, environmental law experts said.

The change could make it easier to repeal limits on these pollutants from coal-burning power plants, oil refineries, steel mills and other industrial facilities across the country, the emails and documents show. That would most likely lower costs for companies while resulting in dirtier air.

...

E.P.A. would no longer take health effects into account in the cost-benefit analyses necessary for clean-air regulations, according to the documents. Instead, the agency would estimate only the costs to businesses of complying with the rules.

...

“If you’re only considering the costs to industry and you’re ignoring the benefits, then you can’t justify any regulations that protect public health, which is the very reason that E.P.A. was set up,” said Mr. Revesz, who led the White House Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs under President Joseph R. Biden Jr.

...

James Goodwin, the interim co-executive director and policy director at the Center for Progressive Reform, an advocacy group, said the move appeared to ignore the 2015 Supreme Court case Michigan v. E.P.A. In the majority opinion, Justice Antonin Scalia wrote that if an agency considers the benefits of a regulation, it must also consider the costs, and vice versa.

“Scalia was making the point that you can’t judge a regulation’s reasonableness just by looking at one side of the ledger,” Mr. Goodwin said.

Didn't the liar in chief say that under him we will have the best quality air?

He's a mysterious character. Maybe the word is sneaky. I hope someday there's a real biography, written by an investigative journalist who can work behind the Sphinxlike pose (and weasel face) that ol' Jared projects. I wouldn't doubt at all that he's anxious to do some more stuff for daddy-in-law. If I worked for a guy for 4 years, and then two billion dollars fell out of the sky and hit me on the head, I'd want to hit the jackpot again, too. Two years ago he was quoted as saying that the Gaza Strip is "valuable waterfront property", which is so Trumpian that you know his little heart beats in sync with Donald's.
