The officer encountered the man, who was not wearing any clothes, in the parking lot, Alexander said at a conference published online by local broadcaster Fox5.

Alexander said the man ran at the officer, who backed up and ordered the person to stop before shooting him twice. Police did not find a weapon at the scene, he said.

I guess we can add "being naked" to the list of capital offenses for black men.

I thought the being black trumped any other offenses. But I'm not sure what the officer was supposed to do when the guy ran at him.

You post a lot of these threads. How do you decide which ones to make about racism?

Maybe the police need to be charged for each bullet they use but be given unlimited free taser use. Incentivize them a bit by hitting them in the pocketbook when they murder someone.

Here's an idea.

Use a taser on him.
Based on previous stories, tasers don't work as efficiently on people out of their mind. Not to say that there were not other options such as falling back. The prevailance of these events, you'd think it'd be standard to have two officers on scene. Granted, even this doesn't work sometimes, see the case where the black guy that got into a car accident and was knocking loudly on doors got shot too.

they don't teach takedowns at the police academy anymore?

This thread was already ksened when I got here.

But no answer to the question?

I decide based on what looks to me like it has a racist angle.
Is there any evidence of racism? On the face of it, it appears to be that officers are not being trained to deal with real life situations and go for the gun way too early. Once you have the gun in your hands, you can't easily holster, so the chance of using it have greatly increased.

Do the cops need a phalanx system Greco-Roman wrestlers subdue suspect while the police hide behind riot shields armed with rocket launchers?

How about a sensible idea. You don't use a taser on a charging man unless you have another cop backing you up with a gun.

Oh, and excessive use of force by the police.

But you have thoughtfully provided us with many threads involving what you considered excessive force by police in which you did not invoke racist motives.

so?

but it's nice that you're more worried about my possible motivations than about an unarmed naked guy getting shot to death by agents of the government.

@dismal - i'm also playing a game to see if there are any stories of police shootings where loren won't defend the police.

I'm not sure how to top a "completely naked and unarmed guy" story if he comes in and defends the police on this one too.

So you have demonstrated to us that excessive violence by police is not something that you necessarily associate with racism.

But in this case you did associate it with racism.
