Gil Gerard, TV's Buck Rogers left a touching message to fans on his Facebook page.
Bob Weir (1947-2025)
His family announced his death today; unclear what the actual date was. He was diagnosed last year with cancer but is said to have died from related causes (lung problems.)
If you want to hear how strong a performer he was, especially with the Grateful Dead, of course, play any of their concerts from the '72 European tour -- Weir was on top of his game at that point, singing ballads and rockers with a beautifully controlled tenor voice. He cowrote two of their most-played rockers, Truckin' and Sugar Magnolia, and later wrote such heavy-weight numbers as Weather Report Suite, The Music Never Stopped, and Estimated Prophet, usually with co-writer John Perry Barlow. But the Weir song that was most foundational to the Dead's music has to be Playin' in the Band, which set the band up for extended jams from the early 70s through the end of their career.
I love the songs where Weir and Garcia traded verses: Jack Straw and I Know You Rider -- there may be others but these come to mind.
Unexpected and sad news. The only members of the Dead's 1967 lineup who are still alive are the drummers (Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann.)
Weir was the group's perennial youngster, a teenager when the group formed and always projecting a friendly, loopy sense of humor (although when he tells the Yellow Dog story during equipment mishaps, you want to skip the track.)

My mother's a big Grateful Dead fan and she just found out. I've been to some concerts too.
I never really "got" the Dead, but I have an appreciation for their impact. RIP.Well that sucks!
