Here we go. This is the problem in America. The voter.

Biden inherits a pandemic and all of the economic issues that it creates. People are upset and his polling numbers dwindle. Dwindle so badly with an America that was certain that 2024 was worse than 2020 somehow, and elect the guy whose poll numbers dropped below 35% in 2021 because he instigated a riot at the US Capitol... and egged it on.

But that isn't my problem. My problem is that Trump has desecrated America's honor (assuming we have any) with the Iran negotiations. He went into Iran saying we'd overthrow the Government and now we are giving them $300 billion, at least, for having the plucky spirit to survive. And Trump's approval is 36%. Inflation is up solely because of his tariff and war policies. Costs are still up, not declining. Nothing has improved, rather things are worse... and he still has the support of 1 in 3 Americans. Biden wasn't the greatest President of all time, but his ratings were in the dumps because people didn't like how things were, not because Biden instigated the economy to go into the dumps by pissing off every trading partner on the planet. Things are notably worse now, and the globe is still gliding to a global energy crisis because of Trump (and Netanyahu) criminally undercalculating the Iran attacks. But the approval ratings are still about the same.

So much shit has come out of the White House, that it could be easy to forget two Americans were murdered by ICE this past winter and people thought maybe that was the first term Trump!

WTF America?!

Are you adjusting for the percentage of people who even pay attention to any of this, politics, geopolitics?
Pew Research has it that people's interest in the news has dipped over the last ten years from 51% to 36%. That's the news in general. All of it. What percentage of Americans are paying attention to anything beyond their budgetary needs, never mind a 14 point plan with Iran in comparison to what Obama had in place.
The needle doesn't move because the people who are paying attention are people who are never going to change their mind anyways. Would you? If in 2028 your choice for president were Joe Manchin or Bill Cassidy, Kyrsten Sinema or Lisa Murkowski, who would you vote for?
What moves the needle is what that bald-headed dude in New Orleans told us back in 1992. Know who I'm talking about? Of course you do. Personal finance, income growth, inflation, national economy. This moves the needle.

This is a direct result of the media, unfortunately, and the normal human tendency to consume your thoughts, beliefs, and knowledge from social mechanisms rather than forcing them all to be "constructable".

lol. Just remember how we got here.

The Democrats could always try putting up a viable candidate next time.
Some of your problem, and it seems to be a problem worldwide, is that voteable charisma doesn't often accompany the ability for responsible government.

Eh? What are you on about?

Hard to believe but Harris may run for the presidential nomination.

Charisma and looks.
Some of the smartest people I would vote for are un-attractive woman.

ETA: Hell, my older sister would have been a better president. She is wicked smart but not handsome.

Inflation is not up solely because of tariff or war policies. It is up because our government and the fed who is responsible for inflation wants it to be high. They need it to be high because it is the only way at this point to extinguish the US out of control spending that has accumulated over many years. By making the dollar worthless this hides taxation on the stupid savers who thought they would someday retire in dollars. But more to the point of your OP, it will make absolutely no difference which other moron in the future becomes elected. Or which tariffs or other taxation are in place because we will see non stop high inflation from this point forward. Austerity of any form is politically unacceptable. And it is either austerity or inflation from this point forward to survive the debt that has accumulated.

True, but no one was forced to vote for Trump.
Yes, we sort of do have to vote for either the republican or democrat candidate. And neither choice makes any difference at this point because our country is really being controlled by power structures who pay both parties what they want. Regardless what the majority of the population really wants.

No, you don’t have to vote for anyone, especially someone who you think would make matters worse.

I don’t buy your conspiracy theory.

To be fair, very few of the things people associate with ability are actually associated with real ability.

I have had bosses who knew nothing about management and everything about looking busy.

I have seen a parade of politicians who know nothing about how to actually solve problems but they're popular and friendly so they get seats (and here, I'm actually talking about a person from my own childhood who is a 'liberal' politician, and I know for a fact he's more passionate than smart).

I have seen people who are "sciency" on an endless quest to defeat actual science.

Oftentimes, the fakes seem more "real" than the real thing, if only because the real thing doesn't need to practice looking real, in their mind (and so often get overlooked). Of course, that's a huge problem, considering that most people don't ever get enough info to ever really have a hope of spotting the fakes.

Not sure I trust the judgment of someone who claims anthropogenic climate change isn't real about what is a viable political candidate or not.

Not voting would work in theory. But the population is not well enough organized, informed, or motivated to pull such an event off and the power structures can count on that. In the end the financial industrial complex (FIC), the military industrial complex(MIC), and the technology industrial complex(TIC) make sure your only choices are their choice they want you to have. Sometimes the money appears not to win right away as when Bush fought against Trump in the beginning of his first term. But in the end the money always wins. It won with Obama being the sponsor of terrorism in Libia. And the money is indeed winning with Trump in Iran today. This is not conspiracy theory this is just common sense reviewing history. The POTUS does not really run America, he/she is just middle management whose real purpose is to make sure you are ok with what the power structures really want to do with America.

When was the last time you voted for someone you really wanted? Not just the best of two bad choices? Regardless who you voted for in the last election, the MIC will make sure we will be fighting in useless wars (Ukraine and Iran). And the FIC will make sure all their profits are privatized and losses are socialized to the tax payer. And the TIC will make sure we have more surveillance data centers the public does not want consuming more power and carbon. You can count on those type of things happening regardless who you vote for or do not vote for.

America is not a democracy, we are a dictatorship led by capital. A dictatorship that could still be brought down peacefully but can not be brought down politically anymore.

The war in Ukraine is not useless to the people of Ukraine, nor to the people of the Europe, nor to the people of the world, including United States.

The last time I voted for a Presidential candidate I wanted was Obama. No candidate is perfect.

Money always wins because money has the multitude of options and the flexibility to win.

The US was moving away from using more carbon under the Democrats. But people like you put Trump in power (twice) and that stopped.

Frankly, your response sounds like an excuse for voting for absolutely the worst Presidential candidate in a very long time.

How is the war in Ukraine helping me or you? Is it improving our standard of living somehow or helping us to become more free and prosperous?

I voted for Obama too. He turned to shit just like Trump has and for the same reasons. Who was it again who bailed out the banksters during the 2008 financial crises? Who was it who paid for the bankster bonus packages right after Obama saved their asses from their own mistakes?

Money should win in economic transactions but it should not be allowed in democracy. In China (as bad as they are) at least the government still rules money. In the US money rules our government.

When it comes to moving away from carbon the only thing that matters is the whole world which has nothing to do with Trump.

Trump saved the country from being invaded by open borders. Somehow he still filled that promise even under the conditions he had to work with. I view him no worse or better than Obama. Perhaps a little better than Obama when it comes to fooling the public.

How is the war in Ukraine helping me or you?
A free Ukraine wanted to trade with the US. That's what put a thumb tack on Putin's throne. Ukraine buying US products is good for the United States. Expanding our customer base is good.
