Here Comes The Left

Change can be scary, because it allows the mind to imagine all types of results. The idea that the “far left”’s potential toehold that will springboard into a full blown totalitarian dystopia is the stuff of miniseries, not realistic analysis in my opinion.

Moreover, the same chicken littles are silent about the much more realistic foothold white “Christian” nationalists have here and their attempted goosestepping towards a different totalitarian dystopia.
Change was scary during the French Revolution and with good reason. Because what they got was far worse than what they started with.

The US already has California as the perfect example what the US can expect in its future. California was a functioning democracy 40 years ago but now is a political monopoly. Not caused by ideas of socialism but due to the indigenous population replaced by unlimited immigration of another country. This is exactly the plan the Democrats have in place for the rest of the US. Open the borders and buy votes with free stuff from the federal government.

I'm not so scared of socialism as I am of political monopoly. Especially corrupt politics. And as bad as the Republicans are and have been at least they are not trying to take down the country by allowing other countries to invade for votes. We already only effectively have a uni-party and that's not even good enough for the Democrats.

I think it's bizarre that some of you are afraid of a small number of liberal politicians who identify as Democratic Socialists when our country is heading towards Fascism under the current administration.

Fascism : a populist political philosophy, movement, or regime (such as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual, that is associated with a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, and that is characterized by severe economic and social regimentation and by forcible suppression of opposition
At the core of fascism is loyalty to tribe, ethnic identity, religion, tradition, or, in a word, nation.
If you don't see the obvious signs, you're not looking. Even if a handful of Democratic Socialists are elected to Congress, the US is not going to become a Socialist country. The Democratic Party is a very diverse one, as I've said before, so stop acting like little frightened children and look forward to a change from what we are currently facing. under the autocratic mad man and his little sycophants. I just hope that more rational people will vote instead of staying home because they expect perfect candidates.

Oh?
California was a functioning democracy 40 years ago but now is a political monopoly.

Oh? Is this the crybaby plaint that Rethuglicans generally can’t win in California because Californians are smart enough to reject them?

Not caused by ideas of socialism but due to the indigenous population replaced by unlimited immigration of another country.

OHHH??? Which “indigenous” population are you referring to? Native Americans? Or the natives that white people replaced in the 19th century?

This is exactly the plan the Democrats have in place for the rest of the US. Open the borders and buy votes with free stuff from the federal government.

You are so clueless.

No one else is, either.

For the record: for those scared that the future of the U.S. will be that of California, let it be noted that California has the largest sub-national economy in the world, and the fourth-largest economy overall, surpassing Japan.

Wow, what a horror story!

IMO California and all the blue states ought to secede from Trumplandia.

It’s funny. If illegal immigrants have taken over California via “invasion,” (they have not) they sure have done a good job of things, considering that Cal has the largest economy in the U.S., the largest subnational economy in the world, and the fourth largest economy overall. Go Cal!

Meanwhile, let’s recall that the U.S. STOLE California from Mexico, which means Mexico has every right to retake it.

The likes of Chevalier and Mamdani are not liberals, they are full on Marxists.

when our country is heading towards Fascism under the current administration.

lol, not hardly.

Since there seems to be a dispute over what "real socialism" entails, in order to understand your point more clearly, which "actually existing socialism" do you mean?
"Real socialism" or "actually existing socialism" is a term of art. It refers to socialism as actually practiced in USSR, GDR, etc. as opposed to some ideal version of socialism.
Thank you for the informative yet non-responsive answer.

Another win for the DSA:

Democratic socialist Melat Kiros poised to become the first Gen Z woman in Congress

Political newcomer and democratic socialist Melat Kiros is poised to become the first Gen Z woman elected to Congress after defeating 15-term incumbent Democrat Diana DeGette in a primary race for Colorado's 1st Congressional District, according to a race call by the Associated Press.

The win in the solidly blue district that makes up most of Denver means that Kiros, a 29-year-old Ph.D. student and lawyer, is all but likely headed to Washington, D.C., next year. She would replace DeGette, 68, who has held office since 1997, the same year Kiros was born.

It's an upset that comes amid a broader intraparty fight taking place among Democrats as prominent incumbents face pressure to pass the baton to a slate of more left-leaning and younger candidates pledging to reject longtime political norms and practices.

Some changes are negative, and some changes can be predicted to have bad outcomes. Like embracing socialist policies.
Some socialist policies are good, some are bad.

Maybe it will not be Soviet Union or Khmer Rouge, but embracing socialist policies would still be harmful to the US. Look at DSA platform - it has some very bad ideas indeed.
The DSA has a very small toehold. White nationalists are running the federal gov’t. Yet the fear is about tge DSA.

Just because mostly white and Christian right-wing extremists are bad, does not mean that the disproportionally third world and Muslim socialist extremists like Zohran Mamdani, Adam Hamawy, and Avila Chevalier are in any way good, or that Dems should embrace them.
I didn’t say that. I am saying that the OP’s (and your) fears concern a dystopia with a very small chance materializing while ignoring the dystopian future that is actually unfolding in front of you.

I think the real immediate damage from the DSA is not to the country itself, but to the Democrat party. Polling in recent years has shown Democrat party favorability dropping. Adding far left kooks to the party is going the wrong way for improving that situation. It would behoove more moderate, mainstream Democrats to push back against the DSA and their nutty ideas, instead of welcoming them into their "big tent". They have already started dissing Hakeem Jeffries, Chuck Schumer, et al.

These vacuous counterfactual assertions you pull out of your ass don’t hold any significant sway here. That, despite the glee with which your denigrations are received by our mindless trumpsucking members.
Denying the nose on your face would be more credible than denying Trump’s totalitarian aspiration.
Your insufferable prick detector is apparently broken.

I don’t see that happening. Newsom has switched to embracing the nutty ideas. These nutty ideas seem popular with the younger crowd. Not surprisingly really.

It's "DemocratIC" party. The only people who call it the Democrat party are either ignoramuses or right-wing assholes.

Opening post reads like it was written by JD Bowman. Not surprising given that persons characterization of immigrants and silence when ICE kills citizens without just cause, ignores due process, yanks nuns off the street, harasses people over scathing but non-threatening emails.

The real horror story is not the economy, but as I mentioned the political established monopoly that exists there today. The horror story is that the people who founded the United States and California (white Europeans) are rapidly being replaced demographically over the past 10 years. By political design.

As far as economies go I would not expect California to last much longer on that front either. Detroit was once a big economy too while Henry Ford was still alive. Look at Detroit today. Musk and other successful billionaires who have helped build the economy of California are now moving their headquarters out of California now mostly because of bad local government, regulation, and taxes. Just for a moment stop to think how bad that must be for a business with huge financial investment to pull up stakes just because of local government. Who can say what California is going to look like in another 10 years?

This is the reason to adhering to the strengths of tradition for Governance is important. Because it should be capable of managing radicals from either wing. In NYC, Mamdani the "Marxist" can't seize the wealth of the bourgeoise. He can't seize property and redistribute it. Our Government protects things such right to property ownership.

Now, if Mamdani were to say strip all the regulatory groups and replace them with communists in communist garb, replace commissioners on a whim because they aren't doing exactly what he wants them to do, demand the replacement of judges who are interfering with his unconstitutional (NY and USA) plans, that would be cause for grave concern.

But there are guardrails still, at least in most states, if no longer in DC.

It is something. Kerry was the most liberal person to ever run for President. Then it was Obama. Then even Biden and Harris were "radical". Seems to be the boy who cried wolf.

I'm also curious about what ideas of the DSA you find "nutty". I'm sure they have some unpragmatic ideas. Maybe even some fantasies. but I'm curious what you think is "nutty". I apparently don't go to their website as often as you do.

I didn’t say he could. Mamdani is merely the mayor of NYC and doesn’t have any power to do the things you mention. But he is still a full on Marxist.

Thankfully. Because if he did have that kind of power, you can be sure he would be doing it. He doesn’t hide it.

Yeah yeah...
Trump is a full on fascist. Main difference is that Trump is president and gets away with anything he has because he's bought and paid for by our wealthy fascist Deep State.
Tom

Y'all make is sound like socialism would be worse than what we have right now.
What socialist countries, past or present, would you say is/was better off than the US with regard to the economy, freedom, opportunities and human rights then ours right now?
Norway, Sweden, Denmark......hell even the UK and France are BETTER than what we have here in the US.
Sweden? Hmm
EU? Hmm

How you ever seen soccer fans rioting in Europe?
What the hell does that have to do with their economic systems???
