2026 Mid-Term Elections

Socialism is not very popular with most people.
“Socialism “ is a bogeyman word used by the GOP, conservatives, MAGATards, and their dupes to evoke USSr or Red China type authoritarian anti capitalist anti-american political structures. It’s been used to Social Security and Medicare which are extremely popular. The US highway system and farm support meet the bogeyman definition, yet remain popular, especially in red states. Dams and public airports are popular. Hell, deficit spending is embraced by all!!!

So while the illusionary boogeymen scares many Americans only when he’s not helping them.
This is exactly why people like Derec never like to talk specifics about why they think people like Biden or Clinton are "socialists". It sounds absurd when you spell out in words that you think Bidenomics is a Marxist theory.
Where did Derec or anyone like him here call Biden or Clinton socialists?

Oh, sorry, "Left". Which apparently does not so much as imply socialism to an American moderate.

While Derec has indicated Biden wasn't too far to the left, he indicated that the far left had notable influence in the Biden Admin and shifted it well to the left.

That's a much more accurate representation of his views. And one shared by many.

"Shared by many" is akin to Trump's "people are saying" quip, which is meaningless.

Just setting the record straight. Something people on this forum are often not wont to do.

You have to establish a record, before setting one straight. What does it mean in concrete terms when you claim that Joe Biden was "shifted well to the left"? What does that mean, aside from "was not a socialist"?

Now if someone would just explain what the Biden Admin did that "shifted it well to the left", I'd love to hear it.

I remember a lot of donkeys who were against both wars.

Plus the current insane war has no support among donkeys and very little support among elephants. None of these wars that were started in my life time were necessary. They were all a waste of money and deaths, a long with brutal attacks on innocent people. I will never forget the image of the young girl running away from a Napalm attack. It still makes me want to weep.

And it's nonsense to suggest that Biden was dragged to the Left. He was moderate with some left of center policies, by US standards.

The only positive about the latest horrible war is that it might wake up enough people to get them out to vote so the R-cons lose in the midterms. That is assuming that people don't feel too intimated to vote, all things considered.

Then you have a faulty memory, because only ONE Congresswoman voted against the authorization of lethal force in Afghanistan. One. Not "a lot". The Senate vote? Unanimous. In the House, just California representative Barbara Lee. Senators stir blood into their morning tea, to prepare for their job: rubber-stamping the current president's ambitions.

This is quite accurate. As a reminder, the USS Cole was kind of the end of the road for the Taliban. The Clinton Admin, however didn't want to drop that on the next Admin, seeing the CIA needed to confirm the Taliban's complicity with the attack, and 2001 was just around the corner.

The real problem was that the W Admin didn't care about terrorism threats, minimized Richard Clarke's involvement with the Admin and moved on to saving America from a Cold War threat. This was also reinforced by the GOP who were critical over Clinton's attempted attack on bin Laden in Afghanistan and he was accused of "wagging the dog" to distract from Lewinsky, oblivious to a threat that made itself known in 1993 when it attacked the WTC.

So after 9/11 occurs, the US really had no reason to not hold the Taliban responsible. I know at the time I was very much against Afghanistan, but the 9/11 Commission Report did a real good job of explaining the timeline. We had a coalition, a mandate, things seemed straight forward, if not awkward (occupying Afghanistan has been a fool's errand for millennia). As we'd learn, the Neocons didn't know jack about occupations, had eyes on revenge in Iraq, and Afghanistan just became a failure waiting to launch.

This wasn't even something the US did. It was a friendly fire attack by the South Vietnamese armed forces.
I also do not see anything wrong with US trying to help South Vietnam resist aggression from North Vietnam, which was aided by both China and USSR.

Do you think the Korea War was wrong too (not sure when you were born)? Should we have left South Korea to the Kims?

I have shown plenty of evidence that he was dragged to the Left.

All wars are horrible. But I think a war with the Iranian regime has been inevitable since they took over the country. It is unfortunate that it is somebody as incompetent as Trump who is prosecuting it though.

More to the point of the 2026 Midterms, Mandela Barnes (who unsuccessfully ran for Senate in 2024) has dropped out of WI gubernatorial primary race. The DSA nutjob Francesca Hong has a huge lead in the polls. Yet another instance of DSA takeover of the Democratic Party sadly.

The primary has not ocurred. So the takeover talk is premature.
