Has anyone else had experience with carpal tunnel and if so, did you get a procedure to correct the problem?

I have a bad case (can't sleep without a pretty sturdy wrist brace) and am scheduled to see a specialist tomorrow. My problem is the recovery process. Wiki tells me you're not supposed to lift over 10 lbs (4.5 Kg) for three or more days, and that presents a potential problem for me. Oh well, I'll see what the doc says tomorrow.

I had carpal tunnel quite bad in my left wrist. Was getting worse.
In Mar 2016 I was hit by a ute whilst riding my bike. The only bone I broke was the scaphoid bone in my left wrist. Ignore the 2 cracked left ribs.
It broke very cleanly which was fortunate. If it had shattered my wrist would have been stuffed.
It was strapped up very tightly for about 4 weeks.
About 4 months later I realised that I not had the pain in my wrist for months. 10 years later still no carpal tunnel pain. Other pain, but not that.
One long term effect of the injury was I lost quite a bit of rotational strength in that wrist.

I would not recommend trying it normally. The concussion I got was huge.

Good luck tomorrow. I await a definitive diagnosis which won't occur until in mid December. I don't have any pain - I just drop things (not all the time).

I had it done on both wrists. Cleveland Clinic stopped doing the laparoscopy method. Said it was too error-prone, so I got the old-fashioned cut and stitch.
Biggest problem I had was having to wrap my arm up in plastic when showering. You can buy disposable vet gloves on Amazon.
I was awake for it all. Had a local anesthetic.

Well I saw the hand/wrist specialist and he confirmed I had CT. He suggested a shot for now, and see how that works. He didn't think my disability would be much of a problem with surgery, as he's dealt with that kind of thing before. So now I wait a couple of days for the shot to kick in, and we'll see how long it lasts. Then probably the surgery option.

That's interesting. From what he said about surgical aftercare, my doctor probably feels the same way.

My wife had the surgical procedure on both wrists about 20 years ago. She faints at the sight of blood, so it was hard for her. She couldn't even look while I got my shot.

Sorry I can't specifically address the lifting part. I remember taking it easy for the sake of the stitches but that's all.
When I asked why my ring and small finger still got numb, I was enlightened about cubital tunnel release surgery. Something I've yet to have done. It's fine if I don't sleep with my elbows bent too much.

Day four after the shot and my wrist feels MUCH better. I've been typing and surfing for an hour with no numbness or pain.

That's pretty much what my doctor said about aftercare - it's mostly to protect the incision and stitches. He said they could fit me with some kind of splint that would keep my wrist rigid while it healed.

So far my ring and small finger have been largely unaffected. But thanks for the info. What is "cubital tunnel release surgery?" I suppose I could google it ...

Google to the rescue. I don't think that's in the cards for me at this point.
