Turkey shoots down Russian Jet

But now it's a Thing. Now Putin has to either do something or at least tacitly admit to the rest of the world that he doesn't have the answers either. I mainly refer to American right wingers who have fallen in love with Putin because he "doesn't fuck around" and "he'll show that pussy Obama how to get things done."

And now that he's involved himself in this shit--the same shit that Obama's been wise to avoid--what will he do?

There's no realistic way to solve this thing--well there is, but the western world no longer has the stomach for it. And even if he wanted to go Total War, he doesn't have the capability. Or if Russia does have that capability, they can't afford it and it would be too much of a drain on their military resources.
Putin doesn't have to go to total war. He has Iranian forces and Hezbollah for ground support. With the US and probably the rest of NATO finally putting pressure on Turkey to get control of their Syrian border, ISIS pseudo Caliphate days are numbered. The oil money is drying up fast. If Turkey complies and slows down their aid to the crazies, SA and others will have a harder time supporting ISIS. So with Russia, Iran, Hezbollah squeezing out the 19 opposition/terror groups and the Kurd's squeezing them from the west, I would say that ISIS days will be numbered. Once they are denied any territory, they will loose much of their bling power. Not that they aren't trying to set up shop in Afghanistan, Libya, and Yemen...

Putin can't win a limited war with Turkey. Turkey can strangle the Russian forces in Syria by closing it's supply routes. I think this reasoning may have let to the downing of the jet.

I think there are some Russian ground forces in Syria.

Ok...but who's talking about war between Russia and Turkey? I wasn't, nor do I see one looming.

Yeah, aircraft and missile batteries tend to require support troops, security, rescue teams, and maybe even a few special force teams just in case...

So you are saying there were Russians on Ukrainian soil and that Russians were in a rebel province of Georgia as "peace keepers". How wonderfully peace loving./canyousayBSveryloudlywithastraightface.
Yes, there were russian peace keepers there. They have been there since 1990s. Both Georgia and Ossetia agreed to have them there to keep peace.

And again, no, Russia did not attack Ukraine. And even if hey did how does that justify Turkey attacking Russia?

Sorry I took so long. Been away at doctor making nice.

If Russia can justify having Russian ethnics in Ukraine as justification for sending in troops then Turkey can shoot down Russian plane attacking Turkish ethnics.

Russia is assuring France they are on France's side on this terrorist thing and they will keep gas flowing just if France will relent and let them have that ship they built.
The 2 Mistral's were sold to Egypt, not that they have taken possession yet...

Good for France. They had the ships so they were available since Russia wasn't getting them.

I assumed "total war" as between states, sorry. And couldn't come up with anyone else.

I think Putin cares more about Assad than IS. And there's a point to that strategy, because if there's a settlement, IS is toast.

LOL...and we are good.

In other ME insanity news, it seems that more people are getting concerned about the House of Saud, along with Prince Reckless (aka Mohammed bin Salman)

Saudi Arabia is at risk of becoming a major destabilising influence in the Arab world, German intelligence has warned.
Internal power struggles and the desire to emerge as the leading Arab power threaten to make the key Western ally a source of instability, according to the BND intelligence service.
“The current cautious diplomatic stance of senior members of the Saudi royal family will be replaced by an impulsive intervention policy,” a BND memo widely distributed to the German press reads.
The memo focuses particularly on the role of Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the 30-year-old son of King Salman who was recently appointed deputy crown prince and defence minister.

Wikileaks seems to suggest that Erdogan ordered shoot-down because of elections.

The election was on November 1st. The plane was shot down on November 24th. It is possible that the standing orders were given before the election though but it's hard to see how classified orders given to the military could help with popular election, if those orders are not acted on.

It appears wikileaks are talking about the same thing I posted some time ago.
