This happened 2 months ago, and despite it being a massacre of 8 people, a single family, the investigation has gone no where and there is almost no news about this. Maybe the fact that drugs were involved makes it less reporting friendly, but this case seems to be one of the larger domestic incidents (Orlando aside), yet all we are hearing about are Muslims killing Americans.

It's much more of a mystery, but not as horrifying.

You lay down with dogs, you get fleas. An entire family getting executed, something unsavory was going on.

It also makes me think if most of them were killed because they would know who the murderers are, they will find the guy(s).

Because the reality of police work is that usually the evidence either is clear or it isn't. If it's clear they usually have their suspect quickly, although actually capturing him sometimes takes time. If it's not clear then they usually don't solve the crime, period. Look at how long serial killers sometimes get away with it--there's a major manhunt but if they don't leave behind useful evidence the cops don't get them. They're usually only caught due to a stupid blunder or bad luck.

Yeah, and this is another reason it's likely to go unsolved. When a crime is criminal vs criminal they're usually much more aware of how to avoid leaving evidence and the cops likely don't know who the likely suspects are, making it much harder.

Hmm, this crime is most likely not race based. Hell, we do not even know the identity of the killer(s).

When the crimes are race based, then it is actually the opposite. When a black person is killed by somebody non-black (Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown, etc.) or allegedly raped (Tawana Brawley, Crystal Magnum) they become huge national stories. The other way around? Mostly crickets.

Yup, OJ Simpson didn't even hit the radar.

Serial killers kill strangers. Most murder victims are killed by someone they know. In this case, the killers must've been well known to the family.

She was the Duke lacrosse team accuser.

Why did I ask? We're in a thread about murders and Derec has to talk about rape accusations...
He does it so often, can't be considered a derail anymore. TF changed posting policy, and indicated all threads should be expected to start discussing false accusations of rape at some point. ;)

Maybe? Ya think?

That and the complete lack of progress, i.e. nothing to report.
How often is non-news reported? It happens all the time.

It may be that the Orlando shooting looks random; the attacker didn't know his victims. Random violence is more disconcerting than domestic killing.

Orlando is no doubt a huge incident. However, the 8 dead in Southern Ohio seemed to have received no press at all. It was a calculated and cold mass killing as well. It wasn't just a run up and shoot up.

That's why we have you to bring up such cases of non-mass murder related issues in a thread about press and a mass murder.
I thought the OP's focus was the racial angle rather than that particular crime or even type of crime. A big part of the Duke Lacrosse debacle was the "poor black woman raped by privileged white boys" angle. See also  Group of 88, made even more ironic because the ringleader's adopted son raped and killed some white women and she blamed racism for him getting killed when he tried to escape from prison.
Again, there is a double standard when it comes to race and crime but it is the exact opposite of what you claim.

Not true. I heard about it when it happened.

Also, look to thyself.

When Orlando happened you came squealing here as fast as you could. Why didn't you start a thread about this for weeks?

I mentioned race, I definitely mentioned mass murder.

We are well aware of the Duke Lacrosse case. It was a terrible thing and completely off topic from this thread.

The exact opposite? So the Orlando shooting isn't getting reported on?

I think Derec meant black on white or white on black crime.. not that the motive of the crime itself was racial.

OJ indeed is an excellent example of what Derec is saying.
