The apple doesn't fall far from the tree

Welp, she's gonna have to prove it to a jury.

Oh and Al Sharpton.... scary man to conservatives for some reason.

I don't often agree with George Thorogood, but...

"If Al Sharpton is a reverend, I'm the Dalai Lama with a Glock!"

While I agree her claim is exaggerated, as Michigander, the pothole capital of the country, I'm all for anything that gets roads repaired quickly. pothole.jpg

It sounds like a real injury, but she is greatly exaggerating the harm it caused her. $5 M request is insane. Send her home with a few thousand dollars plus medical costs.

I meant "fake" in the context of the injury she was claiming.

Idiot! Who would want to fuck something as ugly as that?!

How is giving 5 million to a huckster and grifter, daughter of a huckster and grifter, going to repair potholes quickly? It will only make the city $5 million poorer and thus less likely that the pothole posse will be adequately funded.
Wanksy, on the other hand, might be genius. Although he did steal the idea.

I don't think she'll get anywhere near 5 Mil. Although potholes cost American drivers 3 billion per year. You, being in Atlanta, don't have to worry much about potholes. Us northerners have to deal with them daily.

If this fantastic sum is awarded by the court, the idea is that it will make the city to think more carefully about the problems of not fixing potholes (i.e. make them bear the costs of their decisions) and consequently alter their behavior into fixing the potholes in a timely and effective manner. It is exactly the same reasoning you use when you propose that protesters are sued for alleged damages from their activities.

And $500 million will do that even more so. Why stop at $5 million if you want to completely disconnect harm caused vs damages paid?

You need to ask Ms. Sharpton or her lawyers that question because I was not addressing that point at all.

Did you not realize the article? It's pretty obvious the injury is being faked.

Did you not realize your response has nothing to do with my post?

No it is not. I was not talking about fantastic sums for imaginary damages but about realistic sums for real damages. Shutting down an airport (or a highway for that matter) costs people money.

So can injuring oneself. It is instructive that you are all for monetarily punishing BLM protesters for minor inconvienences but against punishing a city for a minor inconvenience imposed on a black child of Al Sharpton. You are not fooling anyone but yourself.

Given how much she is clearly lying about the impact of the injury, odds are high that she is lying about the cause, and potholes had nothing to do with it.
She shouldn't get a penny without proof that stepping in a pothole caused it. Oh, and if the pothole in not in a crosswalk, then she only got hurt due to breaking the law and also should get nothing but a fine.

While potholes are a nuisance, they are also inevitable in areas with harsh weather conditions. People bear primary responsibility for watching where they are driving and walking. Even if she isn't lying about the cause, she likely does not deserve compensation. She was likely recklessly and illegally not paying attention in order to step in a pothole. She'd only deserve even medical bill compensation if it was on a poorly lit street, right in a cross walk and had been there long enough that the city had reasonable time to deal with it.
It is that public whose voting choices determine the funds available for pothole repair. So, unless their was particular unreasonable negligence by the city regarding this particular pothole, there simply being an unrepaired pothole is not valid grounds for a suit. The idea that the public can sue itself for choosing lower taxation over better maintained infrastructure in general is absurd.

Maybe they can work out a settlement where she gets a little monetary compensation in exchange for her dad finally admitting that the whole Tawana Brawley incident was big made up piece of nonsense. But I'm not counting on it.

Having lived in the Detroit area and worked in Detroit, those conditions are much more likely than not.

I would hope if she is faking this injury, that a judge would see through it, throw the case out and order her to pay court costs for the city.

Michigan pays about a third less per capita on roads maintenance than surrounding states. I have to travel about two miles on dirt roads to get to my brother's place up north in the back woods. Those roads are smoother than our city streets.
