but this article really bothers me. Look only at the URL for now.

Based on the URL I was sure of the race of the family involved. That should not be, it shouldn't be possible to draw such a conclusion from the little bit of information presented in the URL. Giving the country (NBC is a US television network) and the fact the parents blame the victims for resisting shouldn't be enough to ID their race but it is.

BLM, fix your own house!
 
I'm looking only at the URL, as instructed.

'...lled their son' is not enough information to reach any conclusion about anything. Shit, there's not even an entire verb.

The linked article does not mention the BLM. The situation (robber shot by an employee) is not a police shooting. So what is the connection of this story to the BLM?

This isn't "my child didn't do wrong"--you'll find that everywhere.

This is "my child should not have been stopped from doing wrong". In this case the parent knows their son engaged in armed robbery of the place they used to work--and feels that's ok.

. That is certainly not a position consistent with the BLM.

Later in the article
Hairston and Grace Sr acknowledged that their son was breaking the law by robbing the business, and said they definitely don’t condone what he did.

Which clearly indicates they did not think he should not have been stopped.

For some reason, you think "stopping" requires a killing.

If you had bothered to listen to the report in your own link, the mother claims her son had worked at that Pizza Hut and had troubles with some of the employees. She thinks the nature of the killing (a shot to the head) indicates it was personal. Of course, she may be wrong, but there is nothing in any of this that resonates with any BLM message that I am aware of.

So other than the assumed race of the victim, why do you link this to the BLM movement?
 
I cannot always tell the race of those involved in a story from the headline alone, but that shouldn't be a surprise with "always" being the operative word; however, having been warned to count the hits with the misses (to cut down on speculation based bias), I have noticed a curiosity that does help skew my probability of success. For instance, if there is a liberally skewed view and a victim is black, there is a high probability that "black" will be expressly articulated --but not so much with whites; furthermore, if there is little doubt to a lawbreakers guilt, race is less likely to be mentioned if the perpetrator is black. So, with a little skill and knowledge of what happens more often than not (via mindfully counting the hits with misses) one can substantially increase their success rate of identifying the race of people involved by the wording of headlines alone. Not always, of course, but armed with the right set of things to look for, one can easily skew their chances of being right more often (make that, much more often) than not.

That's a distinction without a difference. It is a parental reaction rooted in the same emotional bias. When its possible to deny one's child had any involvement at all, they go that route. But when that isn't possible, they unreasonably downplay the actual harm and threat their child posed and frame the situation in whatever way minimizes the child's immorality and maximizes the immorality of anyone that harmed their kid.

The vast majority of white mother's would be saying the same thing and do say the same type things when their kids commit crimes.
 
Nobody knows the race of anybody involved based just on the facts presented.

Guessing right is not evidence.

Some people have a hard time understanding what counts as valid evidence.

Because everything you post suggests that you're little better than a bot that just spews the same nonsense you hear from political talking heads and have put about as much thought into those stances as an actual bot?

Say what you will about Loren, but I get the sense her/his positions on things at least come from a sense of personal opinion rather than just the copy pasted opinions of someone else.
