It is irrational to delude yourself simply because it makes you feel good.

Besides, sky daddy* tells people to do some pretty shitty things that do not make them good humans. No-one needs an sky daddy to tell them to be a good human.

Truth often has a way of being beneficial even if it isn't something we want to be true. Getting diagnosed with cancer isn't pleasant but if done early enough can more often than not lead to successful treatment and/or remission.

Coming to terms with the reality that you don't have a magic sky-daddy looking out for you may be disappointing. But finding out that there was no Santa Claus might have been disappointing as well. Some of us use that knowledge to get off our asses and fix stuff rather than waste time trying to use mental telepathy to tell our invisible friend what we'd like fixed.

Atheism never claimed to be a science nor a philosophy. It is - most simply - a lack of belief in deities. There is nothing to prove or disprove; nothing to feel good or bad about.

If it turns out the universe did have a creator, my next curiosity would be "what created that creator?" So at some point, we each have to acknowledge that somehow *something* was created and that we just do not know how. The universe is not built specifically so that humans will understand how it works. At some point I just realized that we can stop at the first level and admit to not knowing entirely about how the universe itself was created. No need to invent some invisible and magical being that did it, but we do not know how it did so, or how it came to be itself.

I disagree with the “ALL” part of that. I don’t think ALL humans benefit from a belief in God.

What really is the problem with people who find that believing in God does not help them?

And what if they cannot believe because they have seen it is a delusion?

Is there something you think should be done with atheists? Because, they DO survive. There has always been atheists and always will be. Clearly it does not tear a society apart to have atheists in it. It just seems to freak out some totalitarian "everyone must submit" persons.

Physics cannot tell us much about the history of the universe during the Planck epoch and doesn't give us cause to conclude that the universe was created.

Look at the Middle east with it's Islamic religion. War, poverty, extremism, suicide bombers, and other assorted nastiness. Sunnis killing Shias, Shias killing Sunnis. Crazed extremists everywhere with their Jihad and religious craziness.
