• Welcome to the Internet Infidels Discussion Board.

IMDB message boards closing down

This board is has swapped ownership. It used to be II and owned by Michael, who transferred it to the other Michael, then it was purchased by an oil conglomerate media group. Then Jo bought it with RayJ from said Media group. They then sold it for a massive profit to an eccentric fool that thought there was yuge amounts of money to be made in web boards. He quickly sold it for a huge loss (though was able to right it off) to Maverick (a former air fighter pilot in the US Navy), our current owner.

Wait, what was the question?

IMDB had a message board? I wish I'd known that before it shut down. If I had, whenever I was curious who that actor was in a show I was watching, I could have just asked somebody to figure it out for me instead of going through all the trouble of typing the show's name into the search bar and then looking for the guy's face.

I'm really not sure if there's anything else that IMDB does or how that's a viable business model for them.

Not sure if this is the right forum to be honest.

It seems IMDB feels the message boards aren't worth the upkeep. What could this mean for any other boards? Including here.

TFT is not a good comparison to IMDB, though. They are a database site first and foremost with the board as a side feature, but now they have Twitter and FB for interacting with the DB's users and starting conversations, and they're finding the message board is not serving their purposes very well.

We're here as a discussion board first and foremost. We're not an appendage to a larger site with its own purpose. We're here as long as we are willing to post here. It's not the community it was ten years ago at Internet Infidels, but it's still kicking. I would love for the formal debates and scholars to come back to us, and I'd love to see the level of activity and membership numbers rise again, but either way I don't see us necessarily going away anytime soon.

I am bummed about their boards closing. I read them regularly enough, to see other theories about movies and shows, which you don't get as much of in reviews. I hate most of all that I might have to resort to reddit now.

Apparently message boards are behind the times and obsolete. All the cool kids use twitter now.

Me, I have two modes of posting. Twitter would accomodate only my short, smart ass messages.

Yeah, Twitter and Facebook have pretty much killed conversation, exchanging it with blurting and post-n-run communication. People love it too!

The people also elected Trump, so... I'm suspecting the people are dumb.

Same here.

When I didn't understand something or wanted to ask something about a movie/TV show/actor, that's where I would go.
