For a variety of reasons, I never got into the Mass Effect series.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the premise sounds an awful lot like the Beta Ray Bill story. If so, I'm surprised no game used that premise before this.

So mass effect is about an alien race that creates a cybernetic warrior that looks like a horse, because their planet is attacked by demons coming from the center of the galaxy where fire god Surtur is forging a big-ass sword?

I just meant the thing about protecting an ark ship while being pursued.

Is the ark at least called "Skuttlebutt"?

Needless to say Beta Ray Bill is one of the weirdest Marvel characters, and one I'd certainly like to see in a movie sometime. If Marvel/Disney can make a talking raccoon and a baby tree work, I'm sure they could find some room for a horse-skeleton-faced space Thor.

Isn't that also the Battlestar Galactica reboot?

It seems like a not uncommon sci fi trope.

Whoa! Deja vu.

Has this thread already happened before?

Beta Ready Bill is a little different because the large number of civilians are in suspended animation, and thus even more helpless.

If so, I apologize. Merge?

You may not have, it just feels like this question was asked already, unless it was a similar question about another game being like some other game.

Finally got around to reading reviews. The story sounds like it focuses on what happens after the colony ship arrives at a destination, so very much not a Beta Ray Bill story.

Eh, Mass Effect (And the people who make it) are overrated so you're not missing much. I can't speak much about Andromeda since I haven't followed it that closely, but a story centered around a space ark isn't that uncommon in science fiction. It's right up there with stopping an evil empire by destroying their super weapon before they can unleash it on the world/galaxy.

The better question is why we haven't seen a Beta Ray Bill movie because that sounds Amazing!

I disagree with your assessment of the game developer.

I have no idea if you're right about those games.

I agree that a Beta Ray Bill movie would be great. He's so agonizingly noble. How did things work out that we saw Rocket and Groot in a movie before Beta Ray Bill?

Keep in mind that development companies are like rivers. It may be the same river, but the actual water that flows through it today is not the same as the water of yesterday. The talent of yesterday is the overrated hack who's full of himself tomorrow.

Your enjoyment of the ME series though depends on how much stock you put in plot construction, because story is the only thing the games really have to offer. They never really got the 'game' part right.

Also it probably has something to do with the titles. 'Guardians of the galaxy' bam, put it on a shirt and it'll sell. 'Beta Ray Bill and the legendary sun-god-sword-thing?' ehhh sounds obscure and risky.

Also, hard to make a movie if your main character is not a human or doesn't even look like one. But Beta Ray Bill would fit right in as supporting character in Guardians of the Galaxy or a Thor movie.

Not sure I accept your argument about merchandising.

For every Thor action figure with Mjolnir, they can sell a Beta Ray Bill action figure with Stormbreaker. The T-shirt would be Bill standing on the bow of the ark ship shaking Stormbreaker at an unseen enemy. I don't see any problem with the merchandising.

Heh, my local comic book store had a full sized brass Stormbreaker on display when I was in there last week, looks like they are way ahead of you on the merchandising.

I just started playing Mass Effect Andromeda. It's quite fun and well made.

I don't know how indicative this is of overall quality but this is hilarious to me regardless.

Ya, that was funny.

Most of the complaints seem to be about how the cartoon characters are too cartoony or not cartoony enough or some other irrelevant tripe like that or talking about bugs in the pre-release beta version. They all seem really trivial.
