Historical Jesus

Superman, Disney , Harry Potter , Santa Claus , and the tooth fairy have that main important factor that differentiates instinctively from the Jesus story .

CHILDREN! They grow out of it ... later passing on the stories at bedtime to their children.
In my case the reason I never questioned the jesus fairy tale is because I never met anyone else that did. I met lots of people that stopped thinking santa and tooth fairies were real but no one for the jesus tale.

If I had I would have begun to think critically about it as well, asking how it is that people can fly around in the sky like superman but that superman is just another tale.

So the difference was just that the alternative was never presented to me when young. When I got older I began to meet people who didn't think the jesus tale was real. It was shocking, no different than a five year old hearing that santa isn't real. But that was the difference.

There's nothing intellectually dishonest or flawed in accepting that a real person named Jesus did real actions which other real people honestly took (or mistook) to be 'miracles'.

The atheist historian is not compromising anything by admitting as much as this based on the documents we have.

But to assert that there never was a real historical Jesus of Nazareth and that the documents are fakes, lies, myths is to put oneself in the category of inventing a new myth - that Jesus never existed.

The Illiad was a sacred text to the Greek pagans, used like the Bible is used today by Christians. They all believed these characters were real people.

They did all manner of miracles in that book. Yet, somehow Christians are comfortable with passing the Illiad off as a myth while the Bible must be historically accurate. How come?

I don't dismiss supernatural events just because they aren't in the bible.

Ehe.... I think what you mean to say is that Christian theology is a incoherent mess?
Messy if out of context imo

Gen 6:4

4 The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of man and they bore children to them. These were the mighty men who were of old, the men of renown.

Sounds like hercules ;)

Have you converted to paganism?

Except Hercules clearly lived in a post-Flood world and interacted with people who lived in places built after all the pre-Flood places were destroyed. Are you claiming that Nephilim continued to be born after the Flood? I don't think that's biblically accurate.

Sounds like tall tales.

Even when those supernatural events assume pagan magic?
The bible warns against it.
It's very fashionable these days to meet jesus tale believers who state that all those other gods and miracles are really their spaceman in another form and place. How mysteriously quaint. All those other practitioners of other faiths need to do is simply update their icons, their stories and their behavior with the one true version. Otherwise all is okey-dokey!

Revealing though how Christians won't be caught practicing those other religions or worshipping those other magic spacemen, even though they claim they are one and the same.

How do you spell "hypocrite?"

Even when those supernatural events assume pagan magic?

You mean like this...?

"Pharaoh then summoned wise men and sorcerers, and the Egyptian magicians also did the same things by their secret arts"

Ya, but their secret art was actually pottery. The snake they "conjured" was just made of clay and Moses got all freaked out over nothing. He's never actually lived that down and everyone in Heaven snickers about it behind his back to this day.

Mathematics seems supernatural to me.

Not very good for parlor tricks or raising the dead perhaps, but invisible, purely intelligible, yet with its own laws or behaviors.

The Bible could have been evidence of the supernatural if there were any information in there that couldn't better be explained by natural causes. But there is nothing in there that qualifies. Nothing. This makes the Bible evidence in the column against the supernatural.
