50 tomahawk missiles tonight were launched by Trump against a Syrian airfield.

Does Trump have this power and does he even know what he is doing?

Yes, he has this power.

No, he doesn't know what he's doing.

I certainly do not trust ANY administration not to cock this up, but this administration? Ugh. Half a million people dead, and 70 in a chemical attack force a change in our policy suddenly.

Legally though? I guess the Republican controlled govt will never hold him accountable anyway.

He is commander-in-chief so can order an air-strike anywhere in the world at his discretion. He must notify Congress within 48 hours of doing so under the  War Powers Resolution, a law put in place in response to Nixon's secret bombing of Cambodia.

Trump's psychoses is are much less amusing suddenly.

Clinton was just calling on him to do this too, that's been her position for a long time. This is a 180 for Trump though. Wagging the dog? Overcompensating to show he is not that friendly with Putin? Who knows, but this chemical attack rationale sounds phony.

Fox News & Friends are blaming Obama for the whole thing, saying he never did anything about Assad's war crimes and Trump is a hero to stand up and take action.

Well of course they are. It probably escaped their notice that this marks the latest in a long line of US Presidents who have ordered airstrikes against or invasions of Middle Eastern countries going back several decades. In fact we've been lobbing Tomahawk missiles into the region for almost the entire time they (the missiles, not the countries) have been in existence.

And it has always been such a successful strategy...

I love how the Republicans forget when Obama was basically on standby to attack Syria in a major way and simply asked Congress to vote on it - you know, something they always complain about when a President takes unilateral military action, then they all suddenly got really, really quiet.

I was thinking that earlier today. Several years, so many dead... and 100 more tip the scale to military intervention.

I suppose teaming with Russia on ISIS isn't happening now?

Trump calls on all civilized nations to make things right in Syria. Just press the Easy button Donhole.

I can't stop thinking about the fact that it happened within couple of days of Trump upgrading Assad to "not an enemy".

You have to understand, Trump didn't really now anything about Syria, and he has a few year's worth of arguing for non-intervention there. But the other day, he saw this on TV, so now he's involved.

Or maybe someone tweeted him. He's a babbling asshole.

Il Douchebag told Putin who told Assad who pulled his equipment and personel out of the area.

The runways were not hit. Minimal damage.

And we had to get clearance from Putin before we could launch the strike.

Let's hope so, but reports say there were casualties.
The runways were not hit. Minimal damage.
Again, let's hope so

I understand you have to warn russians which Pentagon did.

And it was on Fox News.
