Chris Murphy: "it's time for Congress to get off its a**"

My heart goes out to the victims, their families, the first responders, and the entire Las Vegas community. Nowhere but America do horrific large-scale mass shootings happen with this degree of regularity. Last night's massacre may go down as the deadliest in modern U.S. history, but already this year there have been more mass shootings than days in the year.

This must stop. It is positively infuriating that my colleagues in Congress are so afraid of the gun industry that they pretend there aren't public policy responses to this epidemic. There are, and the thoughts and prayers of politicians are cruelly hollow if they are paired with continued legislative indifference. It's time for Congress to get off its ass and do something.

We have met the enemy, and he is us. Everytime they attend an open venue like that they'll be wondering who they should suspect. And hugging their guns will no longer provide much comfort. It will be interesting to see how Las Vegas handles this.

This Chris Murphy is going to have to toughen up his manner and confience as a speaker if he has any hope of being substantially persuasive for political change and in seeking a higher office.

This guy was smarter than the average mass shooter and figured out how to maximize casualties rather than simply going for a bunch of firepower. He got in a position where he could fire on a packed crowd from an angle so his lines of fire wouldn't be blocked.

Does congress permit its members to carry semiautomatic bump-stock assault rifles into its chambers while it conducts business? The hypocrisy...

We have laws that say you must restrain your child or infant in an approved carrier when you drive. We also have laws that allow you to carry a functioning loaded semiautomatic assault rifle into crowded areas. I guess it's more dangerous to not strap your kid in than it is to carry that assault rifle.

We're a strange country.
