Rep. Chris Collins, a New York Republican, was arrested and charged with securities fraud by the FBI.
Federal prosecutors say Collins engaged in insider trading of the stock of Innate Immunotherapeutics, an Australian biotech company.
Collins was a board member at Innate.
A congressional ethics report in 2017 found that the congressman was able to buy discounted Innate stock that was not available to the public.

I was just about to post the same thing from Raw Story!

There seems to be no end to the corruption in the gop. No wonder they love the idea of Putin running the US....then it would be normal and acceptable.

Ah ha! This is clearly a conspiracy by the Deep State to punish patriotic Republicans for the crime of being loyal to Russia! [/rightist]

More toppling! Perhaps we should have a separate thread to track them as them fall!

This has been all over the tv news all morning

.
In a statement following the news, attorneys for Collins said they planned to "mount a vigorous defense to clear his good name."

"It is notable that even the government does not allege that Congressman Collins traded a single share of Innate Therapeutics stock," the statement said."We are confident he will be completely vindicated and exonerated."

That's hilarious. The only reason that he didn't sell his stock is because his stock was all tied to Australia and trading on that stock had been halted there. So, he told his son who had stock in the US market, then he sold it all the next day. When the information was released about the failure of the drug trial, the stock dropped 92%. Remember when Martha Stewart, who traded a very small amount of some stock based on some insider infomation, was given jail time and then house arrest followed by probation? This is much worse, but then Martha is a woman and a Democrat. Just sayin'.

IIRC, Stewart got busted for lying about insider trading to authorities.
